I can't update my 659

I am having problems updating my 659 remote after adding some new AV devices.  I have had this remote for many years and in fact I updated some items two days ago with no problem.  Now I can not update and the remote will not work!  If I use the remote software to update I hang at 3%.  If I update through the web site it shows the remote is communicating and then when it tries to update (after waiting in the queue) the file will never download.  Keep in mind a file did download and run when checking communications.  When I then click on troubleshoot and then select "the remote control software didn't open automatically", select NEXT, then left click on the Remote Data File (Update.EZHex) hyperlink I receive the following error message:

ASSERTION failed error '800a0001'

Application-defined or object-defined error

/EasyZapper/New/ProcUpdate/Update.EZHex, line 70

I think that updating the firmware and/or updating the remote software after making some changes two days ago might have led to this problem.  I have repeatedly deleted and reinstalled the software and also updated the firmware again.  Remember I did not have a problem with this two days ago.  Now my remote just says to use the remote software to update and the buttons do not respond.  But I can't update.

I have also tried SAFE mode and updating with the batteries removed.  Using the remote software and in this mode it would then hang up at 54%, Step 4 of 8.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and yes, I have sent an email to technical support but thought I would see what I can find on this forum (I have searched the forum and am now on page 27 going through the headers manually).

Oh, my operating system is Windows XP, SP3.  I have also disabled all anti-virus and firewalls but it worked two days ago without disabling anything.  Thanks.

Try uninstalling Java from the add or remove programs control panel and installing latest from java.sun.com - Java 6 b14 (b for build, NOT beta).

Re: I can't update my 659

Hello smankins,

It seesm that it's an update issue.  This could be with the individual sever you are trying to connect/update from.  To solve this, entirely exit the software (right click on the blue (H) in the system tray, or just do a full system restart).  If needed, you could also delete the cache stored in your Logitech folder.

If it's still happening after these two things let us know,

Dane

Dane, what is the name of the cache file to delete?

Re: I can't update my 659

TO delete the cache folder... (the logitech software will need to be shut down)

XP: docs & settings > [logged in user] > Logitech > browser - logitech(delete this one)

Vista: Users > [logged in user] > Logitech > browser - logitech(delete)

Mac: Users > Home[current user] > Logitech > browser - logitech(delete)
