Removing device from activity

[ Edited ]

Just bought my first Harmony 659 and having trouble with the Watch TV activity setup.

My setup is made up of a Sanyo TV, Sony RDR-GX380 DVD recorder, Optoma HD-65, and a Yamaha HTR-6150.

To watch TV, I just want to turn ON the TV but when programming the remote, it insists on adding the Sony DVD and turning it ON.  It will not let me remove it from the Watch TV activity. Furthermore, if I press the Watch TV ON button a 2nd time, it powers up my projector... the projector is not even listed on the Watch TV device list.

How do I remove it from this activity... I tried dragging the DVD to the trashcan but it won't let me do it.

Re: Removing device from activity

Hi and welcome!

You need to delete the 'Watch TV' activity and recreate it. This time, when prompted, choose 'No, I want to set it up manually". Answer the few questions and you'll be good to go.

TY for the quick response... I am updating my remote now based on your suggestion which did allow me to set Watch TV without having the DVD player turn ON as well.

Re: Removing device from activity

OK, tested the changes you suggested and the TV works fine now... TY... however...

If I press the Watch TV button a 2nd time, which could easily happen while trying to shut off the TV, either because people will think that the button controls the ON/OFF or do so accidently since the two buttons are so close to one another, it will turn ON the projector.

How do I prevent the projector from powering ON if the Watch TV is pressed twice?

If the projector is not in the WatchTV Activity it can't be affected by entering that Activity.

Something else must be happening.

Do you have a separate Activity with the projector and not the TV?

Are you operating the Harmony correctly by switching from one Activity to another and pressing the Off button only when you want to turn off the whole system?

If you select WatchTV when you are already in it, nothing should happen.

Re: Removing device from activity

Hi again,

ususally people tend to set the power commands of their projectors to 'none' in the 'adjust power settings' section of the software, to protect these precious devices from being powered on/off unintended. Then put the power on/off commands at the screen of the respective activity and handle it manually.

Re: Removing device from activity

The projector is definitely not part of the Watch TV activity and if I press Watch TV after I have already activated that activity, it will power up the projector... no clue why it does that.

Yes, the projector is part of the Watch Movie activity but that powers on the projector, Yamaha receiver, and the Sony DVD player only.

Re: Removing device from activity

I'll have to look into Listener's suggestion. But my projector is ceiling mounted so not easily accessible to power up manually and using its remote defeats the purpose of using a universal remote. If that's the safest solution, then be it, however, I wish Logitech would fix that glitch. If pressing the Watch TV once doesn't send a signal to power up the projector... then no reason it should if pressed a 2nd time... it should behave the same way no matter how many times you press that button unless otherwise programmed, but being new to this remote, I have no idea if that is even possible to do.

Listener didn't mean to power the PJ by pressing  its own Power button. He meant to have its power commands on buttons within the Activity and send them - manually - from there, rather than having the Harmony's automatic powering system do it.

In the Watch TV Activity that does not include the PJ there are none of its commands, so it is impossible for the Harmony to send its power commands. One obvious question is why are you selecting the WatchTV Activity a second time - what is the purpose of doing that?
