Volume not controlled

I just set up my tv (sony kdl 46z4100) my blu ray (sony bdp 350) my yamaha speakers and my receiver (onkyo TX SR 606) and when i click watch dvd everything works fine- but when i go to control the volume, even tho there is no sound coming out of the tv, it is the tv volume that goes up and down. In order to change the volume i have to click device and go to receiver and change it from there. What could be wrong?

Welcome to the forum.

It appears that when you set up the Activity you did not make the correct selection when you were given the option of which Device was to control the volume.

Go to Activity> Customise Buttons and check which Device is set in the dropdown list beside the volume and mute buttons.

If the receiver is present Customise the buttons to control it.

If it is not present the best thing to do would be to set up the Activity again, making the correct selection.

Re: Volume not controlled

Hi,

have you setup the activity using the automatic feature in the software? This causes faults. Always choose the manual way!

Re: Volume not controlled

the others are right, the activity mapping (perhaps because you used the automatic method) is not correct
just to clarify why there is no sound from the tv, despite it being connected to the receiver by hdmi, is that the onkyo has a setting (by default) to not send audio to the tv, because it assumes you'll have speakers hooked up to the receiver
assuming that's what you want to do, just adjust the mapping as recommended above
I agree with the default onkyo setting, you don't want audio coming through the tv and the receiver/speakers as it creates an echo
