power on delay

I'm running a TiVo HD through a Yamaha 661 to an Olevia 537, all through HDMI, controlled by a Harmony One.

Power on order in the activity is TV/Yamaha receiver.

I need to allow 10 seconds for the TV to fully boot up BEFORE the Yamaha powers on; otherwise, the output res of the TiVo changes to fixed 1080i (and I keep it on "native").

This should be easy to do but I cannot find a way to add a delay between the two power on commands.

How do I do this?

thx

Welcome to the forum.

The Harmony Power-On Delays don't cover this situation; they have a different function.

There are one or two workarounds for it, but the best thing to do is to e-mail Logitech support with details of your requirements and ask them to insert a special delay during the start-up sequence.

Re: power on delay

Thanks H H

Actually, I did email support and heard nothing back, so I posted here. Then I got the usual we've got your message you'll be hearing from us email. Then nothing. Finally, an email telling me they were too busy to answer my email, I should try the  knowledge base and the forums. I guess that's the Logitech version of the cable company "unplug and replug" solution to all problems. But I chose to keep the case open and told them I need a special delay, and again I wait.

In the meantime, I pont the One away from the components, whch turns on the TV but not the Yammy, then once the TV boots up I hit the remote's help button once, which turns on the Yammy and keeps the TiVo on "native" output.

Crude, but it works.

And I'm leaving a candle burning for Logitech email support.

That's OK and I recommend you to send a private message to one of the Logi guys here to complain about the "email telling me they were too busy to answer my email" - that's totally out of order by them.

Inserting an additional delay in the startup sequence is standard procedure and would take them a minute at the most.

Re: power on delay

I need the exact same thing done.  I'm in the queue for customer support on the phone right now, but I called in a while back so they may not talk to me.  I guess I need to send an email as well giving them the exact steps and timing I need?  There's no way to do this myself then huh?

Re: power on delay

So I just got off the phone with them and they said there is no way to do that.  He started going down the road of setting the IR delay, and I had to explain to him that that's not how it worked :smileysad:

My exact scenario is that I need my A/V Receiver and TV to be powered on before my HPTC, or else the HDMI handshaking doesn't work and I get no video.

His only suggestion was to set the power on/off to manual for my HTPC and map a button to it in the Watch TV activity so that I could wait for the Receiver and TV to be powered on and in the right inputs, then press the power on button for the HTPC.  This would be OK, I guess, but I'm pretty sure I tried to do this before and didn't see the option to manually power up.  I'll look again tonight when I'm back home.

So are you sure tech support is supposed to be able to add this custom delay for us?

Yes! Just got this email from Logi support:

"After reviewing your account and combined information from our database, we have made some adjustments so that the TV should now power on first and wait 10 seconds before other devices are turned on. Please login to your Harmony software and update your remote for the changes to take effect"

I'll check when I get home, see if worked.

Yes, quite sure - they've done it often before, and as you see they've just done it again.

If you got the agent's name I'd report his incompetence to one of the Logitech guys who visit the forum, though it's another reason why e-mailing problems is always better as you do for sure get the agent's name then.

Re: power on delay

Well, no luck. Got home, updated the remote -- no change.

Will investigate more when I have time.
