Got this response (finally!) from "support":
"Thank you for your recent inquiry about your Harmony Remote
We are currently experiencing an issue with the 670 after a recent web update that the physical activity buttons no longer work . This is an issue we have identified and we are currently working on an update to address this issue. All the activities will still work by choosing the activity from the more activities button on the remote. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused ."
So, they are aware and claim to be working on a fix.
Thanks for the update!

Hopefully we will get good news soon. This is simply annoying.

I PMed Eric to get my remote fixed, then realized it wasn't so hard to fix this problem (at least for my case). I had been using the "Listen to Music" button for my "Play XBox 360" activity.
I took away the association of the Listen to Music key with "Play Xbox 360", then added the default "Listen to Music" activity and configured it to work my Xbox and TV.
So, I'm fine now and will get the fix whenever it is available.
I hope this is helpful to others.

another longtime customer here that also can't customize the activity buttons since the upgrade. I went directly to tech support back in late august rather than coming here. they replied then that they were aware of the problem and it would be fixed 'soon'. so it's not new to them as has been claimed subsequently.
while not the end of the world, this is dreadful customer support. first, basic activity button usage defects should never get through their quality control testing before doing an upgrade. it's not an obscure function, it should be something they test for every time. secondly, the slowness in fixing it, in fact 60 days later they cant even say when it will be fixed is ridiculous.
logitech, I have 3 of your remotes. none of them work as intended.
you aren't listening. fix this. now.
