Harmony Remotes - Software/Firmware

I have my Harmony 550 set up *just right* on my old laptop. Now I have a new laptop and I want to know if I can tranfer the settings. Anyone know where the config settings are stored ? a file ? a registry key ?

The configuration for your harmony 550 is held on Logitech's web site.     Just install the configuration software on your new laptop, run the software and when it asks for a username/password use the same one that you use on your old laptop when configuring your 550.

Exactly!  That's one of the good things about the configuration not being store locally on your computer but instead being stored on Logitech's servers.  You can effectively update your remote--exactly like it was--from any computer as long as it has internet access and you can go to Logitech's Harmony website.  As remotevisitor said, put in your username and password and there's your configuation.  He's also right though that you should download and install the latest version of the software and use it as opposed to using the website as the desktop software is the only version of the program that Logitech supports.  But you still can use the website if need be.

Hi and welcome.

The set -up isn't in the laptop; it's in the database at Logi's web-site; there are no settings, files, or registry keys to transfer.

Use the new laptop with your user-name and password exactly as with the old one.

What would be so hard to copy a configuration .dat file to a new computer if harmony did indeed stored data on your harddrive?  Myself and some others wish the software would let you store your config, as a backup that can be restored, on your own harddrive.  Of to edit/add devices or make activities you would have to login.

Yes there plenty of "others" who "wish the software would let you store your config as a backup that can be restored", and I became one of them not long ago, but it's not going to happen.

Trust me, I agree it would be nice to have the ability to store the configuration file locally on your hard drive.  Having had a Harmony remote since late 2003, there have been more than a couple of times I've wished for this capability.  We were able to do it somewhat in the early days with the old "hex" files, but were not really able to store the entire configuration--or tweak it which would have been even nicer.  So I agree that it would be nice for them to offer us this capability.  But, many of us "old timers" know it isn't currently in the cards even though it has to be one of the most asked for requests they get.  My post was merely to show that there is indeed an upside to having the configuration stored on their servers (albeit, a small one).

I suppose the main draw back having the config on "L's" site is if there is no Internet connection available.  Bob L
