Harmony Remotes

I have older 659 Harmony remote that served me well for 6+ years. Unfortunately, recently the OFF button started to act. I need to press it about 5 times to actually activate the off function. All other buttons work fine but this one. I took the case apart, cleaned the contacts which brought the OFF button back to life but it only lasted few weeks. Now it is back to being stubborn.

Any chances to get it working properly again? It would be such a waste to throw out remote just because one button doesn't work. I also know about the workaround of creating activity with non-existing hardware so it can be used to turn the equipment off. My purpose for this post is to find a solution to fix the actual button though.

Did you try to do safe mode?

then firmware update?

then after firmware update, it will ask you to update remote..

Safe Mode by

remove batteries

pressing ang holding down the OFF button

while holding it down put back the batteries in

dont release off button till the screen tells this "safe mode!"

then update firmware by

clicking downloads at the upper right corner

clicking firmware

then just agree and next

Will try the safe mode when I get back home but it looks like a hardware problem and not software. Cleaning contacts brought it back to life and then as the days passed it needed 2 clicks, then 3 clicks, then few days later 4 or more to power off the equipment.

I have followed the instructions and got the remote into safe mode. Now, when I tried to update firmware, all I get is 0% and message "Plug the USB cable into the remote control, or press any button on the remote control to wake it up".
