Earlier today, my Harmony 700 quit responding to any commands. Totally locked up with the normal activities screen. I put it on the charger thinking that possibly it was running low on juice. After charging for a while, still nothing. So I popped the batteries out waited a bit then put them back in. On my activities screen now says (in white, black background):
Safe Mode!
A. 99E2 25
B. 7314 23
C. E1B1 23
D. C64B 66
E. C387 66
FF
I have no idea what this means. Solutions checked:
1. No stuck buttons.
2. Tried the holding down the "2" button thing. Still stays in Safe Mode
3. Tried the holding down the "Power" button option. Nothing.
4. Tried an update. Everything goes fine until its time to update the remote, wherein it stops at 7% and says that it is possible the firmware was not intended for the remote. Considering I am using the harmony utility to update it, this is confusing.
Heres what the status window says:

- Please someone help out. This is extremely frustrating for a remote that cost a few hundred. It is also frustrating that I cannot just call customer service, but they want to charge 29.95 to open a ticket for a remote that cost so much.

If it is in Safe Mode, logon to your Account, connect your remote to your PC and do a Firmware Update, followed by doing an Update your remote to reinstall your configurations settings to your remote.

So... uh, I got my other Harmony remote out to get it programmed as a backup, then when I was done I thought I might try the 700 again just for the heck of it. The 700 decided to update now for some reason, but now it doesn't respond to any buttons being pushed. I changed batteries and nothing. I'm going to put it on the charger for a while more, see if that helps. But hey, at least its out of safe mode, even if it doesn't work otherwise! ![]()

Was that a FIRMWARE update, or just a remote update?

A firmware update. I went to the downloads screen, downloaded the firmware, it wrote to the remote fine, then went to the next screen where it said you need to update your remote. That is where the failure occurred, when it was trying to update it. Of course, now it has magically updated, however the buttons are still not responding.

Same EXACT problem here. Firmware update works fine, then the "Warning - This update may not be intended for the remote control..."
Ugh. I'm on my third remote. This is frustrating.

Did this ever get resolved for this person?
My 700 is doing the same thing and I tried all of these fixes and they didn't work.

Same problem here on BOTH of my 700's now. I think there is something wrong with this version of the firmware.

If your 700's are stuck in Safe Mode, remove the batteries, then while holding the 2 button replace the batteries, this will take it out of safe mode.
