Harmony 700 - switched from MyHarmony to Harmony Software 7.7 to make macros - lost EVERYTHING!

[ Edited ]

EDIT and UPDATE: Left the batteries out for 30 minutes, cleared cache and cookies, tried on last time and... it connected and restored my settings! So, how do I now add a macro/sequence to a remote which has been setup via MyHarmony?

I'll leave the rest of the old message below in case it applies to anyone else...

So, I got my Harmony 700, and I swear I never saw a software CD.

But I set it up via the MyHarmony website. The icons, the activities, the favourite channels and so on.

Took over 2 hours to get it "just so". And then I went to add sequences, or macros.

You know, "menu, down, right, right, enter, exit" - the thing you buy a remote like this for.

Call me an idiot, but I couldn't find anything about it in the MyHarmony docs, guide, online help etc.

So, I downloaded the official Harmony Remote 7.7.0 software, tried logging in with MyHarmony details, it didn't work.

So I created a new account with exactly the same username and email as the MyHarmony software, selected the option to use my existing remote, let it connect and.... no devices. I closed the app, unplugged my remote - DISASTER! Nothing!

In a panic, I fired up MyHarmony, and 1/3 of the way through, every time, it says "cannot communicate - unplug your remote and reconnect". I've done that, I've taken the batteries out, I've rebooted the computer. Still it won't talk.

So, my two questions are this:

1: How to I recover the settings I had before?

2: Why is it so difficult to find macros in MyHarmony (and where are they?!?)

3: At least the guide tells me how to use Macros in the software, am I doomed to starting over and setting everything up all over again if I switch from MyHarmony to the PC software?

You can't have the 7.7 software loaded in the taskbar at the same time you try to connect to MyHarmony.com. You cannot transfer settings from MyHarmory to the 7.7 software.

Re: Harmony 700 - switched from MyHarmony to Harmony Software 7.7 to make macros - lost EVERYTHING!

I'm sure they weren't loaded at the same time - it's possibly that MyHarmony was still running in the background.

When you say I "can't transfer from myharmony to 7.7 software", how do you mean? I just want to ADD to the settings which are already on the remote, to add the most basic and essential of functions, and the reason I bought the remote... a macro (or sequence as Logitech call it).

I've been searching the forums and found a couple of people saying that you can't add this most basic functionality via the MyHarmony software - someone please tell me this is a misunderstanding? Surely Logitech wouldn't have released it out of beta without fixing that bug pretty quick?!

So, the question now is:

How can I add a sequence to my very carefully programmed remote which has been setup via MyHarmony.com?

I also want to do another most basic of functions - rename my devices. Again, 2 hours of googling, rtfm, searching the FAQ and I can't find how to do this. But I read reviews elsewhere where people talk about renaming devices.

If sequences can't actually be done as Logitech said, does anyone know if Logitech direct will take back a remote after 3 weeks, and I'll just stick to my £15 previous remote which DID have sequences.

If you programed your remote using MyHarmony.com and later installed the 7.7 software you have to create a new Account and program your remote from scratch, you cannot transfer your setting in MyHarmoy to the 7.7 software

Re: Harmony 700 - switched from MyHarmony to Harmony Software 7.7 to make macros - lost EVERYTHING!

Wow - that's just really, really bad.

Well, I finally found the box and instructions - there was no software CD, just a pointer to the appalingly buggy myharmony.com.

I'm going to have to blow all my work away, and start again with the proper, working 7.7 software.

It's a shame - the remote itself isn't bad, but it's going to get only 2/5 in my review because of the myharmony software.

I paid £44 for the remote and I still feel a bit ripped off - I'd have definitely been asking for my money back if I'd paid the full £90 for this.

Just a thought, but as often happens with these things, has anyone written third party software that actually works properly with these remotes?

To answer your last question, the answer is no.
