Harmony Remotes

Seems my customer got a new Direct TV box and the Harmony website says it cant control this device... Its the HR24-200.. Thanx ahead of time... :0)

That comment only means that if the Directv DVR is set to be controlled of RF, then the Harmony remote will be unable to control it, the HR24 has to be set to be controlled by IR and that is done via the DirecTV's menu

Then why wont the browser update the remote, it gets stopped at 7%. Saying these is a problem with version updating... I didnt know the DirectTV remote was RF.....interesting,thank you for that tidbit

The Directv DVR can be set to either be controlled by IR or RF.  One way to test to see if it is RF, is to put your hand over the front of the DirecTV remote and try to change the channels, if it still changes the channels with your hand covering the Red IR window, then it is set to RF, and you have to change it to IR for the Harmony remote to be able to control it.  If the updating is stopping at 7% you may have a problem with your security software, or if you are using a USB hub, connect the remote directly to the PC, another problem could be if you are using a Wireless router, connect your modem directly to your PC, and try to update the remote.  If you need to change your Directv DVR to IR, press Menu, Parental Fav's & Setup, System Setup, Remote Control, IR/RF Setup, Remote Type, change fro RF to IR, Continue

so it has to be set to IR, does that mean you have to tape the RF piece from the wireless extender to the receiver?

The RF Extender and the DirecTV option to be controlled by RF are two separate things The 890 sends RF to the Extender which in turn sends IR to the device. So all of your devices need to be set to be controlled by IR so that they can either be controlled directly by the 890 or by the RF Extender. The only RF signal is between the 890 and the Extender. No universal remote is able to control proprietary RF devices.

True, and that company also makes the remotes that control the DirecTV receivers
