Harmony Remotes

My Harmony 890 has suffered from "blue screen" on 5 or 6 occasions. It usually happens when the battery goes completely dead or the battery is removed. It is not recoverable by simply recharging the battery. It IS ALWAYS recoverable by re-programming it. It is sometimes recoverable by simply plugging it into the USB with no further programming. Does anyone know what might be causing this problem?

Also, when the remote works, it works flawlessly.

I updated the firmware in safe mode then reprogramed it.  That sent the remote into "blue screen".  It seems the remote can never be without power or it will loose its settings.

Is there a CMOS battery somewhere that has failed?

Just a note:  I purchased a new battery for the remote.  No change, still get blue screen when battery is removed or dead.  I have noticed that if recovery is needed, all that is needed is to flash the remote with the latest firmware.  No need to reprogram the remote and my 3 Wireless Extenders.
