Harmony IR Extender Unresponsive

Just bought an IR extender for use with my Harmony One.  I'm trying to control a device which sits behind a wood cabinet door and I've positioned the mini-blaster in front of the device (a cable box) and I'm not getting any response.  The instructions say that the "status" light should blink momentarily when it is receiving a signal from the remote, but it never blinks.  The power light is on, however.  Any suggestions, or is the product just not working?

Is the main unit in line of sight to your remote?  Have you seen this Logitech Blog?

Re: Harmony IR Extender Unresponsive

Guys, thanks for your responses.  To answer your question - no, neither the components nor the miniblasters are within sight of my remote.  My setup can be described as such:

A media storage unit with drop down, solid wood cabinet doors with my components within.  The back of the unit is open but about 6 inches from the wall.  I have an IR extender unit on top of the unit as well as a Logitech PS3 adapter.

I spent significant time with tech support trying ot solve the issue and I ended up exchanging the unit for another one.  However, this one isn't working, either.  I'm convinced it's something I'm doing wrong whether it be placement, etc.

I did notice this last night.  When my cabinet door is open (and there is direct sight between the components and the remote) and both the PS3 adapter and extender are plugged in, the IR extender messes with the remotes ability to control the PS3.  Also, when the door is OPEN, the extender's "status" light blinks brightly and rapidly whenever I use my remote.  When the cabinet door is closed and there is no direct line of sight, the status light blinks faintly and rapidly whenever a button on the remote is pressed and when I am standing near the extender...I'm out of ideas, but I'm sure its not a defective device at this point.

Right now I have the IR extender on top of my unit, with the main IR blaster trying to control my AT&T U-verse cable box.

Re: Harmony IR Extender Unresponsive

The reciever for the IR extender and the remote must have line of sight between the two or else it is not going to work

Re: Harmony IR Extender Unresponsive

Thanks for the response.   Let me clarify.  The receiver for the IR extender sits on top of my media storage cabinet, and has direct line of sight with my remote.  I have tried putting the IR main blaster inside the cabinet by itself, the mini blaster inside the cabinet by itself and both inside the cabinet.  None have worked.  However, I do have an update - if I place the IR extender receiver on top of the cabinet AND the main IR blaster on top as well, and put a mini blaster inside the closed cabinet, then the cable box can sort of be controlled.  When I say "sort of" I mean the remote must be within 5 or 6 feet from the receiver, and the buttons must be pressed for 1-2 seconds at a time before they work.  The "status" light on the receiver is much brighter now, also....any tips??

You are some how getting in an IR loop where the blaster/mini blaster over loading the receiver and causing and IR loop. I have fought this many times. You need to isolate the emitted signal from the receiver. Try placing duct tape over the blaster and try using the IR precision cables found on this site with the included emitter covers. This should solve the problem. The receiver is over sensitive and the blasters are particularly strong. It is a bad combo.
