Harmony Remotes

Like others in the forum, my son's Harmony One LCD screen is blank now and has been for a few weeks.  He did the "firmware reload in safe mode" that you suggested.  No change.  Of course the remote is out of warranty by a few months.  This is ridiculous that Support can only suggest a discounted reconditioned replacement remote!  And I would probably have to pay the $29 to get that advice!  It was a very expensive gift to him, but none of us can afford the replacement.  I have read enough comments now to think that Logitech should be handing out replacements for no charge, even for remotes out of warranty.  Although I think this is the greatest remote ever, I never recommend it to anyone anymore because of difficulties with customer support and quality control.  But i appreciate your input and suggestions.

My 890 screen is white.

Logitech, it looks like this issue needs to be proactively addressed and fixed - quickly.

Many customers having problems, obviously a now known technical error with Logitech ignoring it's customers. 

No service support.

I can only think of one other avenue to pursue...The BBB?

Add another Harmony One to the blank white screen. Came home today and it was blank. And of course it's out of warranty also.

My screen went blank today out of the blue. Mu husband picked it up from the charger and it was blank. We did firmware and software updates successfully. At the end of the updates we do get an error "System 9 Error- LCD Module Failed". At that point we have a screen, but it has horizontal lines missing from the display. The remote works though. Then, in less than 10 min, the screen goes blank again. 

I can't find an solutions in the FAQs. Any help that doesn't involve buying a new remote- I'd have to get a different brand if this one dies in less than a year of use!

My Harmony One has been working with my setup for probably a little shy of a year since I was sent it in exchange for a 880 model with defective buttons and has never given me any problems.  However, today it looks like I join the group here.

Today I took it out of the charging cradle and the display lit up with a solid white raster.  The white screen faded to black during the normal time period set to conserve the battery. When I moved it again it lit up white again, the the white turned to and display that looks like a corrupted or stretched out version of the button graphics.   I was able to touch the area of the screen for the first programmed activity and it did turn my equipment on, as expected, but the remote only displayed more corrupted graphics, this time with a series of vertical colored line along the right edge of the display.

I've popped the battery out twice to see if it would come up correctly but the display still fails to perform as expected.

So, the display has backlight and does seem to respond to touch commands correctly.  If it was a TV I would say a logic board or the LCD panel may have failed.  Are there any ideas or issues I should know about related to an LCD display failure?  I have left the battery ejected since writing this post when it was in its own unique thread, but now the display only comes up with changing series of colored, vertical lines and occasional blocks of grey on the display.

I will try the safe mode firmware update as suggested at the top of the thread and report back on the results.

Well I tried the Safe Mode firmware update.  I was unable to get the back,light or display to light up when plugged into the USB at all.  Held the power button for several minutes with no backlight or anything. 

I popped the battery back in and was able to do a firmware update, but when it resolved all I had was a mix of solid and flashing colored vertical lines, with a single white horizontal line right above the center of the display. 

Are there any other suggestions for the issue or to force it into the safe mode so I can try again?

To put it into Safe mode, remove the battery then while holding the Off button replace the battery, the screen will say Safe mode requested.  If you still get nothing on the screen you have a hardware problem and contact Harmony support

Yep, done all that.  Was hoping that even if I couldn't see the test for Safe Mode on the display I might get it to run through the update.   No luck there.

I guess I will have to contact Logitech support now.

I'm having a similar issue. The last week or so, my 8-month-old One has been intermittently showing white lines across the display. It's not fully white, just half white. Firmware reload in normal and safe mode had no effect. At least it's still in warranty.

Sigh. The One was a replacement for an 880 that went kaput. These remotes could be so great if only the hardware quality was better.
