Picked up Harmony One remote and it has the white screen with some letters faintly visible. It still seems to function but the screen is messed up. From the posts, it sounds like it needs to be replaced. I know it is OOW and I have been on hold with tech support for over 30 minutes to even talk to someone. Any ideas for faster response?

I had the same problem, and solved doing the following:
1 - put you remote in safe mode
2- plug the remote to computer and do a upgrade with your remote in safe mode (run harmony software, go to downloads tab, and click in firmware, it will start the upgrade in your remote)
3 - after the upgrade complete (your lcd screen probably will be blank) unplug your remote, don't update changes that the software will suggest
4 - remove the battery of the remote and replace again
5 - your lcd probably still blank
6 - plug again the remote to the computer and now click on the update remote.
7 - your remote will load all the configuration and the screen will come back perfectly.
Well it worked for me!!
Hope it helps!

Other procedure that I succeed to restore the blank LCD is:
1 - put the remote in safe mode
2 - plug the remote
3 - start the procedure to restore the firmware
3 - keep an eye on the LCD of your remote and when the message " upgrading" appear on the LCD remote, unplug the remote. It will reboot, and the LCD will be good
hope it helps!

I cannot get it into safe mode. If I take the battery out it will not power on. If I leave the battery in it just wants to add devices to the remote. No option to reload firmware. Very disappointed in this device.

To put your One in Safe Mode, remove the battery, then while holding the Off button replace the battery, you can then connect the remote to your PC and do a firmware update

tried all of this as I have the same problem. Good thing I bought this as an open box item at Best Buy...now I need to return immediately...the question is..do I get the same remote again or go back to my old logitech 7000?
I see this remote is a piece of junk?

I've had this same problem repeatedly, the screen would fade to the point where you couldn't read it in daylight, or just go black. Then it would just come back (none of the reprogramming instructions from support would help). Now it's been totally black for 3 days. I can use the button portion at the bottom, but the touch screen is useless.

I picked up my otherwise perfect Harmony One and the screen was white. Well, actually the screen is split in half vertically with half the screen about 90% white (you can barely see the text if held at the right angle) and the other half 100% white. I tried safe mode and doing the firmware update multiple times. I've tried various combinations with the battery. I contacted customer support and, after two weeks of silence, they offered me a half-off coupon without even suggesting a method for resolving the problem. When your product stops working on its own, and when many other people report the same problem, the solution is to acknowledge the problem and fix the product or replace it, not to offer a discount on a replacement that may very well have the same issue down the road.

Well... chalk another dead screen up. Just yesterday, 2/20/2012, I went to use my remote and the screen was blank. Was not "white" like others describe, just dead. Knowing by memory the touch-screen options, the functions work when I press the screen. Just can't see anything. All functions on the remote seem to work but the display. Of course... this does no one any good! I will attempt the solutions that I see in this forum, such as safe mode, firmware, etc. Have not heard back from Logitech support, but it's only been 24 hours since I submitted the request. Oh.... naturally.... remote is out f warranty!! Isn't that amazing how that seems to work (not work?)
