Harmony One, not worth the money

[ Edited ]

Bought a Harmoney one remote 10 months ago, Now the remote is dead and will not charge.  How nice you spend a bunch of money on a remote and it only works for 10 months.  This remote is not built good at all.  Save your money. Called CS and they just wanted to replace the charging unit, I refused because the remote did not even charge on the USB.  I told them this and they had to argue with me telling me I was wrong and that it was the base and not the remote.  I fought with them for a long time.  I have a Masters in electronics and have worked in IT for 18 years, I know what I am doing.  I had to pull teeth to get a new remote sent out and I should not have to go through that. With the poor design of this remote and how it only works for 10 months I should have bought something different.

Re: Harmony One, not worth the money

Hey there,

Just curious, what troubleshooting steps did you do prior to determining that the remote is dead? I have read a lot on the forums that some ppl have been having a good working Harmony One remote for more than 5 +yrs.

Went through all the steps with the CS rep, does the LED on the base light up? NO, check the leads to make sure they are ok on the remote and the base, they are all ok.  Put the remote on the USB and see if it connects to the computer ok, it does, is the battery seem to be charging on the USB, NO.  Check Battery with multimeter, Got nothing. Take the battery out an check it out, looks ok to me.  remote is dead, put back on charger does the LED light up, NO.  Hook it up to the USB, nothing happens.  I do not want to start taking this thing apart but seems like the remote is dead, I guess without taking it apart is the battery.  Should last longer then 10 months.  I am not happy with this at all, it should last longer that is a fact with the Li-Ion battery.

Sorry to hear that. Technology I guess works for some and plays tricks with others and then makes others go bananas. It is after almost april you see...its quite possible that the remote is playing "April Fools" with you :smileywink:

Like I had mentioned above, have read that it has lasted 3 - 5 + years for some. It is also quite possible that you just need a new battery. What was the color of the sticker on your battery? If you see blue, its definitely the battery.

If that's the case, check to see if they would send you a battery or you can even buy one from the web. They have had a few problems with the batteries.

I also see that you are getting a new remote so its ok... Logitech values its customers so they are good in senarios such as yours to help you reach a resolution.

The color of the sticker on the battery is black.

Re: Harmony One, not worth the money

The remote only charges via the base.  I had mine go flat very early on thinking I was charging it via USB.  So it probably is the base.  You'll get nothing if it's flat and you plug in the USB cable.

Re: Harmony One, not worth the money

That is odd, Tech support told me it can charge through the base and through the USB.

Re: Harmony One, not worth the money

Tech support sometimes give incorrect advice on how to boot in safe mode and other generally unhelpful stuff so who knows...

Maybe they're supposed to. Mine may be broken too.  It might be a general fault but I can definitely confirm that my remote does not charge via USB and it's been working perfectly fine until now (I have a minor issue caused by a software bug that logitech support refuse to help me with but otherwise functioning fine).

You say the light doesn't come on when you plug the base in.  It should - regardless of how the remote is working.  It does sound like that's your issue.

Re: Harmony One, not worth the money

None of the Harmony remotes will charge when connected to the PC with the USB cable, in fact they will discharge
