Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

Still can't get this thing to work.  I tried turning off my Microsoft Security Essentials in case that was blocking the driver install but still no luck.  I also tried another USB cable (3rd one).  I don't think that it's a permission problem because I'm logged in as the admin and I didn't have any problems when I installed it on this machine a few weeks ago using the same account.  Is there a way I can tell it to run the driver install as administrator?  I tried running the install as administrator as well as the application.

[ Edited ]

Since I elected not to go the vista route on any of my computers nor those I support, I'm out of ideas.

If you can, might might run the install on another vista computer and see if the problem remains as well as doing so on an XP... would help run the decision tree  down to computer or harmony.

Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

Smart move not upgrading to Vista!  As I've mentioned before I've tried this on two computers with the same result so I think that I'll be calling logitech to see if there's anyway they will replace it.  I had a flood in my basement a month ago and lost most of my receipts.  I'm not sure I'll be able to find this one so hopefully they will be able to use my account creation to verify my purchase date.

Thanks so much for your advice and time!

Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

I have this problem too, particularly with Vista. I am dual booting with Windows 7 and it normally works OK with that, however today I was getting the same Device Not recognised error. What I did was unplug the cable from the USB Hub it was plugged into, and plugged it into another USB Hub (one built into the monitor). That fixed it, perhaps try another hub, or directly into your PC to see if this will help.

Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

A recent poster found the simple solution of a replacement USB cable did the trick immediately.

The web based site at  http://members.harmonyremote.com  is always worth a try.

Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

So one more thing.  The logitech software troubleshooting guide says that I should remove the battery, connect the USB cable, and that the remote will get its power from the USB cable.  I tried this and the remote never powers on and nothing gets added to the device manager like it does when I have the battery in.

It also states that the device should be listed in the  "Human Interface Devices" folder of the device manger.  My unknown device only shows up in the "universal serial Bus controllers" section.  I can uninstall it but as soon as I reinstall it shows back up there.

Again I have tried multiple computers/cables/OSes with the same result.  It would be nice if there were some way I could manually add the drive although now that I'm not getting a response without the battery I think that there might be something wrong with the USB interface on this unit.

I also just found my receipt and I purchased this on 8/24/08 so I'm probably out of luck getting a replacement.

I'm sure you have made a restart on your computer...:smileyhappy:         (i also had the same problem with remote+vista and after the restart it was fine)

Re: Harmony One won't connect to USB anymore

Multiple restarts and I even tried installing the software on my macbook and it doesn't recognize the remote either.  I think that the USB interface is shot.  It's got most everything I need programmed on it at the moment so I'm just going to leave it be until I add some equipment and then I'll probably have to look for a new one.

Hi gadgetware,

From reading your posts, it appears you have exhausted all the possible troubleshooting steps. At this point it seems like a hardware issue. I have sent you a PM to help put you in contact with Technical Support.
