LCD blank on a 550 remote

I have a 550 universal remote and the LCD screen loves to blank out. I have replaced batteries, and I have formatted and updated firmware 9 times.  I refuse to pay for a support call considering how much this remote cost. Does anyone have a thought?

Re: LCD blank on a 550 remote

Hello Desertwolf02,

Does this remote screen display randomly or is it blank all the time?

Does it glow?

What I would suggest is a safemode firmware.

To do this remove the batteries, press and continue to hold the off button until you connect it to the computer.

If the remote display displays anything it will state safe mode or safe mode requested.

Then do a normal firmware update.

As for a support call there is no charge if the call is in regards to a hardware issue.

Regards,

Mark

Re: LCD blank on a 550 remote

It has come back once or twice, but has now been blank for two weeks.  I tried the safe mode update after reading this message. It didnt work. How do I contact support with no charge? The utility won't give me a number.

It sounds like the LCD is defective. Unfortunately I don't think there are any other solutions for this remote. Unless you are within the 1 year warranty for the  AMR region I don't think there is much more that can be done

Mark

Thanks for nothing....I wrote down the number, but lost it, so I came back to get it again and you took it off your reply. So thanks for nothing and another **bleep** off to another product.

Re: LCD blank on a 550 remote

Okay : To anyone who may be searching this problem: I fixed it on my own with no help from any Crapitech service. I got so pissed at this remote, I threw it at the wall, and it popped open, so I figured I'd give it one more try. I only tore it apart 20 times, whats one more. I discovered that if I put minimal pressure on the right side upper corner of the screen, it came back. Basically I squeezed from the back and the front putting pressure on the connection to the circut board.  The trick was to keep this pressure after I put the remote back together. I took masking tape and rolled two tic tac size rolls on the front and back and placed them in a spot that wouldnt hinder button use though the spot was right under the Help button which is pretty useless.  I have had no issues since, other than the poor programing of the remote. The best way I found to test this since the batteries were out was to plug into usb while apart. I did have to tear apart and rebuild three times to adjust size and placement of the rolls of tape.
