greetings all,
i recently had a problem when setting up my new logitech harmony 700 remote with my LG 42LG50FD television - I could not get it to select the correct input from initial power on.
once the television was on, i could happily change from TV to my media player to my cable TV etc with no problems.
an initial diagnosis showed it was most likely a power on delay timing issue, but I spent quite some time with no results. eventually I pulled out the original TV remote to have a play.
when you power on the TV, it warms up and then displays the last input that was used from the previous session.
it turns out on this series of television that the discrete input selection cannot be used until this "last input" display has disappeared. while the TV itself powers up to a display in around 5 to 7 seconds, the input CANNOT be selected until the previous input display box has disappeared from the screen.
i've set the power only delay to 16 seconds and now everything works great.
if you have a harmony 600/650/700, note that the power on delays are not set in the logitech harmony remote software on the PC - they are controlled on the remote itself. this is a nice feature since you don't have to keep running from the lounge room to your PC to keep changing values. logitech give instructions here:

i also disabled the LG SIMPLINK on my TV as well since I believe this was also causing some problems with specific power on input configurations. Logitech have an article about it here:
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/de
as a side note, when I disabled simplink, it also changed the default audio out to be the inbuilt TV speakers. In my setup I use the optical out from the TV to drive my speakers (I basically use the TV to be my AV switch). I had to go down to the other audio menu in the same section and disable the TV internal speakers.
i thought i'd just post up a quick message about this experience, in the hope that anyone with a similar series of LG TV's can avoid pulling out their hair like I have been doing for the past few days :-)
i'm super happy with my new harmony 700. it's very wife friendly and happily runs all of my AV gear with no issues.
cheers, wizdude.
