Harmony Remotes

Hi all,

Just joined the forum so this is my first post. Does a change in operating systems affect harmony remotes? I will be upgrading to Macs OS X Lion in a couple weeks. Will Harmony support this operating system as I know they support Snow Leopard which is what I am using now.  Just concerned I won't be able to update my remote etc etc. Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hi everyone.

No replies. This will go out to the staff at Logitech as to how will this affect my Harmony remote (H900) after I upgrade my Operating system to OS X Lion? I am currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.7.

I'd appreciate a response as the upgrade should happen at the beginning of July. Thanks in advance.

I'm using Lion GM right now and I am getting an error stating " The remote control software cannot start.  Give permission to write to the application folder and try again".   I've just installed the app so i havent done any troubleshooting yet.

EDIT:  I had to uninstall and reinstall the app to get it to launch.  I can now log into it but no icons show up in the program so you really cannot make any changes to the remote 

EDIT 2:  I right clicked the app and went to "get info" then changed the permissions of system, admin, and everyone to read and write and the program seems to be working now.

So far, the software has been very finnicky as to whether or not it wants to start, but now that it has started, I cannot connect to my harmony 900. Pain in the royal behind - should have waited to update Mac OS X till after my theater rebuild was done.

Hey there,

unfortunately the "bigger" harmonies using a network-interface instead of a HID-device don't currently work in Lion. 

For my Harmony 900 there is no new network-interface detected (and can therefore not be configured in system preferences) - and so there is no communication from config-software to remote.

Please, Logitech, fix this issue fast!!

The interesting part is:

The USB drivers for the Harmony 900/1000/1100 remotes are not compatible with 64-bit mode and therefore will not allow the remote to communicate with the Harmony remote software. If you have enabled 64-bit mode on your Mac, you will need to boot your Mac into 32-bit mode.

----

Because Lion now uses 64-bit mode as a standard there are no working drivers for the Harmony remotes 900, 1000 and 1100. 

My solution (untested) until Logitech releases new drivers would be starting in 32-bit mode, which can be done by pressing the keys 2 and 3 simultaniously at boot of the mac.

Please tell me, if that works for you.

No, Lion has no 32bit mode, so you can't use that trick. We'll all just have to wait until Logitech releases a 64bit compatible update. 

One alternative is to use a Windows computer to update your remote.

yes, lion still has this feature. You can boot into 32-bit mode by holding 3 + 2 keys while booting.

I found a way to get this working. You need to open up Java Preferences then ensure that 32 bit Java is first in the list. Then Logitech's software will communicate with the remote properly.

They did this once before where one of the versions of the software wouldn't start at all with 64 bit Java. As a Java developer I can't honestly imagine the levels of imbecility required to build something that works in 32 bit mode but not 64 bit mode, but there you are.
