New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony1 no longer works

My son downloaded the new dashboard for xbox 360 and ever since then my Harmony1 remote will no longer talk to it.  It was working perfectly before that update.  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  I cannot image that this new software changed the IR codes that control the xbox360, but who knows.

I've tried updating the remote with all of the original settings, and it still won't talk to the 360.  It is working with all my other devices just fine.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony1 no longer works

I know certain xbox 360s were shipped out with a setting in the dashboard (old dashboard) switched from most other users.  that setting allows for other remotes to control the 360.  I assume this is the case again, that with the new dashboard that setting got flipped.  I myself haven't updated the dashboard yet, but will be doing so tonight.  if you look around though, you'll likely find a setting in the dashboard to allow for other remotes to control it...that's what you need to enable

Samsung LCD HDTV (LN52B750), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic BluRay Player (DMP-BD55), Onkyo Receiver (TX-SR806), XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, SlingCatcher....all with my Harmony 1100 w/ Wireless Extender
Samsung LCD HDTV (LN40B640), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic Blu-Ray Player (DMP-BD60), SlingCatcher, Monoprice HDMI Switch (HDX-501)....all with my Harmony 900 w/ 2 Blasters

Re: New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony1 no longer works

I think you may need to adjust the channel that the Xbox is looking for.

To do this I've provided the instructions below;

Turn on the X-Box and use any control to get into these menus.

1. Click on the Dashboard
2. Select Console Settings.
3. Select Remote Control.
4. Click on All Channels

Shut off the X-Box and now power it back on and attempt to gain control of it with your Harmony One.

I don't have an XBox myself, but we've had some customer change this setting and confirmed it restored control.

Let us know how it goes,

Re: New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony1 no longer works

Thanks for the advice, I have it working now.  The procedure was slightly different than what you described:

1. Click on the Dashboard
2. Select Console Settings.
3. Select Remote Control.
4. Choose "Both Remotes"

*Note, even if "Both Remotes" is already selected you must choose the other option "Windows Media Center Remote", and then go back to "Both Remotes" and select it again.

Power off/on the xbox 360 and it should be working again.

Thanks,

Tim

Re: New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony1 no longer works

thanks for providing the steps.

I just updated my dashboard last night before playing Gears of War 2 for the first time (it rocks)...and my harmony remote still controls it.  I have a feeling that it may be a region specific default setting

Hello!  I have this same problem w/ my H659.  It used to work OK, but will no longer power the 360 on or off.  I attempted the above procedure with no change (switched to Media Center, and then back to Both).  I did recently do the dashboard update, and the problem may very well have started at that time.  Originally, I'd only have the problem once in a while, and using the Help button would resolve it...  But now, no matter what I do (Help does nothing, and I even tried soft buttons for PowerToggle, PowerOff, and PowerOn), I cannot get the remote to turn the 360 on or off.  It's very annoying.  Can anyone PLEASE help?

Thanks in advance!

Re: New XBOX 360 dashboard update - Harmony remote no longer works

Obviously if nothing was changed on your remote, then the issue lies with the Xbox 360.

If trying each setting in the Dashboard -> Remote Control doesn't restore functionality, then you may need to contact Microsoft and see if there was anything with the latest upgrade.

One point to add, is that the XBox 360 needs to be powered on Manually first, then the Harmony can turn it off & on.  It's a standby issue.  Also when it is on, do the other commands in 'Device' mode get the Xbox to respond?
