New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

I just got the Harmony 510 and love it.  However, I was wondering if I can either make a feature request, or otherwise set-up a way to accomplish something?  All suggestions are welcome.

Anyway, on my Magnavox TV there is a source button which shuffles through the different input sources (I had to use Method 3 in the software as a workaround, because the first push brings up the list, and each subsequent push changes the source but I digress...)  Anyway, you can also flip back and forth through the sources by using channel up and channel down.  Its become a minor nuisance that when going from cable TV (HDMI1) to my Blu-Ray player (HDMI2) it only has to move one source and there is no problem, but to go back to TV it flips through all the sources in sequence until it gets all the way back around to HDMI1 (there are 9 separate source inputs on my TV).  It would be a lot faster if it would just move down one channel to get to the previous source.

I don't know how many other people this may affect, but it would be nice if they recognized that some TV's move through the sources sequentially, but can move in either direction depending on what button is pushed.  I tried tinkering with the other methods and trying to make it work, but it gets confused and messes up.

Re: New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

You may want to press "Devices" and then select your TV.  Look for commands like "HDMI1" and the like.  These are called discreet commands and they exist for a lot of TVs and other multi-input devices (but I'm not sure about your TV).  You can use these to go directly to the input instead of cycling and it's much more reliable.

I don't know how many TVs support the "InputBack" function but that would be an interesting optimization to be able to add.  In the software there is a feedback form that you can use to recommend it, but if your discreet codes work that would be a better solution for you.

Thanks for the quick reply; I'll look into it when I get home from work.  If that is the case, it would make the remote worth twice what I paid for it.

I don't think you're going to get this feature of the Harmony "knowing" which way to go through the list!

What you may be lucky with though is in finding that the database does include those "discrete" commands that jdb explains, which are a sort of Harmony bonus for some devices, and which then do indeed make for even better value!

If you had let us know the TV model number we could have told you whether or not you were in luck without you having to wait!

However let us know one way or the other, so that we can advise what to do next.

Re: New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

believe it or not, this exists...just not on your end.  from other posts I've seen from the Harmony team, they can make it so that the remote goes up and down through the list instead of just one direction...but you'll have to talk to tech support....of course, the direct method (method #2) is the best possible choice if available

Samsung LCD HDTV (LN52B750), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic BluRay Player (DMP-BD55), Onkyo Receiver (TX-SR806), XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, SlingCatcher....all with my Harmony 1100 w/ Wireless Extender
Samsung LCD HDTV (LN40B640), Scientific Atlanta HD DVR Cable Box (Explorer 8300HD), Panasonic Blu-Ray Player (DMP-BD60), SlingCatcher, Monoprice HDMI Switch (HDX-501)....all with my Harmony 900 w/ 2 Blasters

Re: New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

Thanks for all the replies.  I was at work at the time, so I did not have my model number handy.  Its a Magnavox 32MF337B.  There are indeed input commands in the database, but none of them work.  I'm still playing with this remote, so I may hopefully figure something out, but I'm still open to ideas if anyone else has one.

Re: New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

Bump...

Ok, I think I've given up on this idea.  I did however play with the timing settings and now it sifts through the list a lot faster.  Still, I listed my tv's model # in my previous post, so if anyone out there has an idea on how this might work better let me know.  It seems a shame that such an advanced remote can't realize that it can move through the inputs in two different directions, and figure out which direction is the least number of steps to select an input.

Re: New to Harmony Remotes, Can I make a feature request?

the remote CAN move in both directions...I've seen logitech do it for others accounts...call them and they (ONLY they) can set that up for you

SJ: Yes, do ask Logi support to fix it up for you - and please let them know that the discrete codes in the database for your TV do not work so as to help future users.
