Server Problems!!! DO NOT USE HARMONY SOFTWARE!

[ Edited ]
======= update (Saturday noon) ==========

Just finished a frustrating call to Logitech telephone support _begging_ for Logitech to participate in this and other Harmony forums and managed to get to a "supervisor" on the second call.

However, seems the concept of Logitech participating in this official forum seemed pretty hard for them to grasp and, where I was "assured" that the request would be forwarded, it's not going to surprise me if it doesn't happen until the work week begins, SO I RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE CONTINUE TO BE CAREFUL!

Safest path is to avoid using the software until something "official" is posted...

While there have been a couple of user posts indicating that the problem seems to be fixed, these have been followed by posts clearly indicating that problems remain, so, unless you already have a brick and therefore nothing to loose, would strongly suggest NOT running the software.

I did look at the software about an hour ago and though it now _appears_ to be functional, the fact that the software seems to be working does not indicate the database is ok... that, plus it's possible that your personal data might have been corrupted by the current crisis if you ran it after the problems started.

Ya'll be careful now, hear?

=============== update! (Friday 9:40pm) =======

There are increasing posts here this evening indicating that users have "bricked" their remotes by attempting to use the Harmony software today and tonight (Friday)

The Harmony Software is SERVER BASED! You risk loosing the use of your Harmony Remote if you try to run the Harmony software before this problem is resolved! Even if you don't connect your remote, you risk loosing your current setup and configuration by just running the software on the corrupt server.

I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT USE THE HARMONY SOFTWARE UNTIL SOMEONE FROM LOGITECH POSTS THAT THE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED AND CONFIRMED THAT USER FILES ARE INTACT!!!

I DO NOT WORK FOR LOGITECH... I'M JUST TRYING TO GIVE A HEADS UP UNTIL _SOMEONE_ FROM LOGITECH RESPONDS PUBLICLY TO THE CURRENT PROBLEMS!

=================original post===========

Based on posts here and trying to run the Harmony software, there appears to be some serious problems with the Harmony software at this time.

Just checked (Friday @ 5pm cdt) and the software is still not functional although it "attempts" to run which would make me very concerned about the safety of my remote's current setup.

Based on posts in a recent 880/890 thread, it looks like updating a remote has the possibility of corrupting a working setup, so, suggest waiting to make changes until things get better.

Can we impose on someone at Logitech to update owners on the status of this problem and notify us when things are fixed?

Thanks in advance.
Beverly Howard

Re: Software/Server Problems!!! Logitech Response Requested!!!

My 720 has bricked! No warning on the website until my remote went wankers after a simple update. Hello?

Your fastest route would be to call tech support and post the results, they're probably all too busy fixing the problem to read the user forums.

Re: Server Problems!!! DO NOT USE HARMONY SOFTWARE!

Just bricked my Harmony 1000.  I've been tweeking at the buttons and activities for the last 9 months, ALL THAT WORK/TIME SPENT IS WASTED.  Everything has been deleted.

I figured I did something wrong, so I started re-doing ALL my buttons and what not for the last 4 hours, just to have it delete what I just did!!!

I am so livid, I'm about ready to run over this remote with the car.  Had it not cost BIG bucks, it would have been crushed long ago.

Logitech better get their act together, as this stunt by them has cost them any recommendation for ANY of their products EVER from myself and company.

Logitech has great remotes, only to be crippled by extrememly poor software.  Pay $500 for a remote, only to have it crippled by the worst software I've ever encountered.

anyone wanna buy a nearly new remote???

If you're having issues with your configuration after the server restoration you can call tech support and see if they have a backup that they're working to restore.

Wow hightower way to overreact man. It doesnt take that long to setup one of these remotes no matter what your system is. They're still great remotes and theres bound to be problems here and there. Logitech has great support and will get it taken care of. Its frustrating being without something so useful but its not the end of the world. The remotes are great and just need a few fixes with the software.

Re: Server Problems!!! DO NOT USE HARMONY SOFTWARE!

you say it doesnt take that long to setup,
and thats true if you have a basic system . .

i have many clients that i have setup with
really intricate setups that are beyond what logitech
expects us to do . . takes a long time to tweak to perfection . .

i lost control of all outdoor music control for 2 music zones
for one of my best clients . .

this is really lame ..
wheres the quality control ?
the beta testing ?

lame rollout!

At the very least they should have posted a warning, and preferably an apology too, on the forum.
Did you specifically ask them for something of that kind, and is there any prospect of them posting an "all-clear"?
