Spec compare 670 vs 659 Harmony remotes -

Hi all -

Where can I find a spec comparison between the 659 and the 670?

(It appears that the pages about the 659 have been removed from the Logitech site - helpful, not.)

I ask for this comparison becasue the Logitechnicians saw fit to send a 659 to replace the horribly scrambled 670 that I have been  trying to program.  Seems odd and FUBAR to 'replace' a 670 with a 659 - but Logitech's biz plan must be driving such a move.

Had I thought that the 659 was the remote I wanted for my $130 I would've purchased a 659.  However, since Logitech knows their products (and since they call all the shots via their software updates) - they must know that, even though I bought a 670, I did not want a 670 - so they sent a 659. Nice that they are psychic that way - what a great service. :-|

They must know that I'll love the 659's button config.  They must know that I'll somehow figure out where the transport buttons for the 30 second jump fwd and the 7 second jump back for my HD-DVR are located on this spiffy 659.

  - yeah spiffy -

My gut tells me that the 659 is a cheaper, older, out-of-production model that they fobbed off on me to 'replace' the *new* 670 I just bought and have never seen work in the month that I've owned it.  They must have a check in the mail refunding the thirty bux that I overspent buying the 670.  Dummy me - how could I have known that what I thought I wanted - was not what I wanted? duh.

So -back to the orignal question - where can I compare the tech specs on these two remotes?

Re: Spec compare 670 vs 659 Harmony remotes -

they both have the sound/picture buttons...the 659 also has the 'media' function for favorites, etc...

other than that, it looks mostly like a different button layout/color scheme.  not sure, but I think they both support the same number of devices.

and of course, they both would be completely able to control the same devices...all harmony remotes use the same database of devices/commands....that kind of thing is spoken to in the FAQ sticky

Re: Spec compare 670 vs 659 Harmony remotes -

Hey thanks WA,

Yep - read the FAQ sticky several times - however I believe it is more than a diff in the button layouts.  The 659 is *missing* the << and the >> transport buttons.

Am I correct that the units are not contemporaneous - that is the 670 supercedes the 659 and therefore has more functions?

(on the 659 the media button is a non-starter - it does nothing.)

Re: Spec compare 670 vs 659 Harmony remotes -

the media button WILL do something if you setup favorite channels or use a jukebox (the 659 wasn't hit with the problem on the 800 series media button).  upon closer examination, it does appear that the 670 has the normal FFWD and REW as well as the skip forward and jump back physical buttons.  the 659 appears to only have the FFWD and REW buttons.  you can always place the other commands, if you need them, on the LCD of the activity.
from what I can see based on some searches, it looks like the 670 was released 10/10/06.  the 659 was released 10/30/2003.  from what I can tell, the 659 can do everything the 670 can do, but would mean putting those two commands/buttons you mentioned on the LCD of the activity.  the 670 however, can't do everything the 659 can do because the media button is more of a media function and can't be replicated on the LCD screen.
so in short, older yes...inferior, I would argue that the 670 may actually be inferior

Well - you raise some interesting points about the 659.  I'll need to learn how to program the 659 for the colored buttons on my DirectTv HD-DVR.  Imagine that those functions will move the LCD.  As for the media button options - where can you direct me to learn how to make it a useful thing?

NB (nota bene for those not in the know)

OmarHarmony has seen the error of the logi-technicians' ways and states that the 659 was sent in error.  States that I can expect a shiny new 670 shortly.  We'll see how that critter works after it arrives.:smileysurprised:

Re: Spec compare 670 vs 659 Harmony remotes -

So here we are well into FEB09 and no remote.  What bunk.  Logiblows.

Where is the 670 working remote one might ask?

Well - I assume that LogiT does not give a hoot cuz they have my money and that is all they really wanted.  They have no desire to serve their customers or to work to retain customers.  They are likely laying off reps, shipping and receiveing personnel and others as we write - they will blame a recession or other outside factor.   The mangers need look no furter than their own desks - they run a lousy ship and like rats should all jump.  There is no semblance of service, nor of pride in manufacture.

The problems reported here should not plague a line of products already at market.  The issues people write in about here should have been worked out in beta.

Consumers should be told that the products are not programable remotes - but really are 'service-ware' subscriptions that will tie the buyer forever to a BROKEN company that sells broken products.
