Up/Down buttons on 650

Just wondering what people use the up/down buttons on the 650 for? (The ones between the menu/exit and info/guide buttons). I just can't think of a good use for them.

You can customize those buttons.  Some uses that buttons for page up / pagedown or dayup/daydown in accessing Recorded Programs in their DVR.

Re: Up/Down buttons on 650

I wish my 885 had those up/down buttons. There are many activities were I have PageUp/PageDown buttons (Watching TV: the onsreen guide, WD TV Live: page up/down when browsing content, to name just two). I usually map those on skip back / skip forward or the color buttons, whatever I happen to use less.

When I bought and setup an 650 as a gift I looked at those button and thought, wow, neat.

Chazar happily uses a Harmony 885 to control a WD TV Live Streamer, an Onkyo TX-SR607 AVR, Sony TV & BD, Samsung Cable Tuner, Grundig VCR and Busch-Jaeger Light.

Your 885 should have them they should be right above the Menu, Exit, Guide, and Info buttons.  The 885 is the European version of the 880, and my 880 has those two buttons

Re: Up/Down buttons on 650

My PVR software already maps the channel up/down buttons to the page up/page dn feature when appropriate and I have gotten used to using those keys. I never use day fwd/bck because if I rarely use the programming guide. (I always just search for the name of a program or use categories). Thanks for the suggestions though. Any others?

No. I did a Google image search, and see what you mean. My 885 is old, apparently the layout got changed. Instead of the two big buttons for page up/down buttons, I have four smaller color buttons at that place - which is actually much better for HbbTV (Digital Teletext), normal Teletext and using electronic program guides.

I was horrified when I saw that friend's new Harmony One was missing these color buttons - they are so frequently used!

The 650 I recently bought as a gift has both: page up/down buttons and color buttons. That is what I would like! More buttons!

Can anyonye explain why the cheaper 650 remote has more buttons and better layout than the One? I understand that many buttons might make the remote appear more "difficult" to many persons, but then why has the simplere remote more buttons and not vice versa? Logitech's handling and constant downgrading of the Harmony remotes, both software and hardware, is beyond my comprehension.

Re: Up/Down buttons on 650

Agree that up/down buttons are useful. We use 'Up' for changing the inputs on Panasonic BTT370, which is too slow and unreliable if the inputs are left to the Activities and, just upon startup, 'Home' is always selected by BTT so needs to be bumped to the last input which was used. 'Down' is used to change the surround sound mode.
