This isn't a new issue it seems but none of the posts i've found seem to help. I've only had the remote for a day and suddenly it is in safe mode and i can't get it back to anything. I've updated the formware and it still wont work. When it tries to update the remote it fails and i get the below messages.
Anything else i can try before calling their support lines.

Hi dindsy01
Presume you saw this post for 900 and it didn't work, and the following part may be a clue:-
"....Checking version information : Warning: This update may not be intended for the remote control...."
- so perhaps something may have gone wrong with the account itself.
It could be worth opening another account, say "...(email)...._new" for your remote, add a device, and try an update with that
Regards
Chris

Anyway. i had to call them and the philippine call desk was really helpful and patient. in the end it turns out to be a stuck button. press and jiggle all the buttons. i have no idea what button was stuck as none looked stuck.
but another tip to get it out of safe mode is to press and hold the 'chapter previous' button (that is the curved/curled arrow button ofof next to the the mute button) while inserting the battery. This worked for me and was part of the solution. i had to it all a few times so am not sure what step in the process it was. before i tried unsticking the button it just kept going back into safe mode.

Thanks for saying what the problem turned out to be, and for the separate tip about holding the 'chapter previous' button while inserting the battery.
