Re: Harmony Link app issues on Android and iOS

Cat-
Having same issues. Tried almost all steps in this thread. Only exception is opening ports on router...

I have Verizon FiOS router so don't know that I actually have the option to do that. Weird thing is that my iPad cannot even ping the Link, but my laptop can. All three are on the same network (192.168.1.xxx) and iPad can ping laptop.

Can you explain how the app communicates with the Link? Your earlier post about ports makes me think it talks through MyHarmony.com somehow, but I don't think that's right.

Updated 10/18

Hello all,

I did some brainstorming with Logitech's Tier 2 Engineering team last night to help determine a fix. The fix is currently being placed in a technical documentation and sent out to support agents when ready.

I was finally able to get the Link working on a 2Wire Gateway using the following settings. (Note: Your router/gateways options may differ. The Engineering team is in the process of writing documentation that will cover other manufacturer settings; please feel free to try my guide in advance of the official fix release.)

If you have not tried the Reset FAQ you may want to try this first as it may provide an easy fix for some. Resetting the router after setup also seems to help in some cases.

Before we start:

  • Uninstall the Harmony Link App from all mobile devices, rebooting the device afterwards
  • On your router/gateway Firewall Settings page try locating the Firewall Settings page and matching the settings shown here
  • Take note of and temporarily disable any custom port forwarding
  • Take note of all of your home theater devices model numbers as we will have to start from a new account

1.) Resetting the Harmony Link

  • Connect your Harmony Link to a power supply.

  • Manually place Harmony Link into Safemode by pressing and holding the red button on the bottom of the device until the status light flashes red (about 15-20 seconds).

2.) Create a new MyHarmony.com account

  • A new MyHarmony account will need to be created. Email address used may not match any previously created accounts (Note: You do not have to use an actual email address, as long as it is in the correct format *@*.com)

3.) Begin device setup

  • Plug your Harmony Link into your computer via USB cable and follow the setup guide on MyHarmony.com.
  • When you reach the last slide which ask you to unplug your Harmony Link, unplug the power adapter and USB connections and move the Harmony Link somewhere in front (facing) your devices
  • Connect the AC adapter and continue to follow the instructions for the Harmony Link App installation and Synchronization on your mobile device

Note: if the above settings did not work, you may have to set your Harmony Link into DMZ mode during setup (See Example) This will have to be done immediately after the "Connect to Wireless network" slide, as soon as the HarmonyLink appears on your network. You may have to bring it back out of DMZ mode after you are able to successfully control your devices.

Optional Steps (If you are still unable to Synchronize your Harmony Link)

  • Bring the Link off of DMZ mode if currently enabled
  • Unplug the Harmony Link
  • Browse to the LAN - Status tab on the 2Wire configuration page
  • Click Clear all devices
  • Reset the Router via Diagnostics Tab
  • Plug the Link back in
  • Open MyHarmony.com, Add a fake One Touch task and go to the Sync Devices tab and click Sync
  • Reinstall the Harmony Link App on your iPhone/iPad.

Your internet service provider may be able to assist you in locating these settings for your specific router brand.

Good luck! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Re: Harmony Link app issues on Android and iOS

Hello all

I've been having the same IOS sync problem with my Link device and have been following this thread from the beginning. I have tried everything suggested here and nothing has worked. I have also tried a few other things which may help with troubleshooting.

I have the same U-Verse 2wire router that you offered settings for in your last post. I tried the settings in the picture (which your link didn't quite follow correctly) and this did not work. What I got was the same white bar that fills from left to right as when I would hard reset the link and uninstall/reinstall the app on the iphone. The bar goes to within 3/16 of an inch of the right and then just sits there. One thing I have noticed is while it acts like it is syncing about every 10 seconds the box with the check and “connected” will flash almost as if it is being disconnected and reconnected. I finally get a sync timeout error and it goes to what I guess is the main page of the app but there are no devices or activities. When I go into settings and tell it to sync with my harmony account the app crashes and I get my iPhone home page. When I go back in it only shows the Logitech logo and never tries to connect to the Link. I have to delete the app from the iPhone and reinstall it for it to try to connect again, at which point I only get the gray box that says “syncing” and no other details, you can still see the “connected” box flash occasionally in the background. Rebooting the iphone does not help. I also tried putting the Link in DMZ mode in my router as you suggested in your last post. My iphone then cannot see the Link.

I tried something yesterday that as far as I'm concerned (I'm an IT geek) pointed the problem away from the router. I have another wireless router that I connected to a port on my main router and set it up as DMZ with the static IP same as the WAN IP on my main router and all of the correct gateway and DNS settings so that it thought it was open to the world the firewall disabled. I pointed my Link, iPhone, and iPad to the wireless network on that second router and verified that all could get to the internet and each other. I then set them all up from scratch, building another account, resetting the Link and reinstalling the app on the iPhone and iPad. There was no firewall at all with this setup and it acted completely the same as it did within the 2wire firewall.

I'm going to give it Linksys a few more days to come up with a solution before returning the product.

I hope this helps in some way, I've spent a lot of time on it and am getting frustrated.

Clay-
My next hope was to try my other router in the same configuration... I'm disappointed to hear that it didn't work for you. I love the idea of the product, but am on the verge of returning it as well. I hope I don't have to...

Hey Clay,

The Sync issue seems to occur mostly on 2Wire Gateway; there is another gentleman in this thread with the Sync issue and a 2Wire Gateway, add you to the fray and that is a very high sample rate... haha.

I have updated the link to the 2Wire Firewall settings page. Please ensure that you have the corrected settings and click "Save" afterwards (I have forgotten to click save many times in the past...)

The DMZ setting has to be done during setup (immediately after you join the Link to the network via the WiFi slide). I have multiple Android devices; when the Link was DMZ mode, I was able to control my Harmony Link over 3G and WiFi. DMZ assigns devices an external IP therefore bypassing the firewall (except the Advanced Configuration settings on the 2Wire). While I was able to control the Link over WiFi and 3G via Android, my wife's iPhone 4S was not able to accomplish this feat. I turned DMZ mode back off, uninstalled the Harmony Link App on my the iPhone, rebooted the router, and reinstalled the iPhone Harmony Link App and was able to get everything in working order.

"The bar goes to within 3/16 of an inch of the right and then just sits there." - If you are referring to the firmware update link, this is normal.

"I have another wireless router that I connected to a port on my main router and set it up as DMZ with the static IP same as the WAN IP on my main router and all of the correct gateway and DNS settings so that it thought it was open to the world the firewall disabled." -I also did this with a spare Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT with all security settings disabled. When you disable all security settings on the second router, the 2Wire gateway is still blocking all the security settings shown in the Firewall - Advanced Configuration page (DMZ or not). Please give my settings a try once more (You may want to start fresh with a new account when you do this)

Thanks for your reply. When I tried your instructions yesterday I followed them to the letter of what you wrote but it still didn't work for me. As far as settting up my secondary router as DMZ on the first router, I don't think that the advanced settings would have made any difference as none of of the router rules apply to DMZ. I forgot to mention on my first post, incase anyone wonders, that when I set the second router up as DMZ on the 2wire router, I power cycled the secondary router so that the DMZ mode would take effect (it says to do that on the 2wire instructions), I looked back under the LAN tab at IP assighnments on the 2wire router and verified that it had the same IP as the public IP of the 2wire router and the firewall was indeed off. I verifed after booting the second router that it also came back with the firewall disabled.

Re: Harmony Link app issues on Android and iOS

Archetype,

I also have an AT&T Uverse 2Wire router and am encountering the same issues.  I tried all of your instructins as well but did not have success.

You said you were able to get the device to sync with an iPhone after you synced with an Andriod device on 3G.  This makes me think that the Sync on the mobile app is actually having the Link to sync with MyHarmony, not just the mobile app, is this correct?

After you complete the Harmony Link setup, try the following.

  • Bring the Link off of DMZ mode if currently enabled
  • Unplug the Harmony Link
  • Browse to the LAN - Status tab on the 2Wire configuration page
  • Click Clear all devices
  • Reset the Router via Diagnostics Tab
  • Plug the Link back in
  • Open MyHarmony.com, Add a fake One Touch task and go to the Sync Devices tab and click Sync
  • Reinstall the Harmony Link App on your iPhone/iPad.
  • Any luck?

"You said you were able to get the device to sync with an iPhone after you synced with an Andriod device on 3G.  This makes me think that the Sync on the mobile app is actually having the Link to sync with MyHarmony, not just the mobile app, is this correct?" -I was able to control my devices on Android via 3G with the Link on DMZ; the iPhone did not want to work with DMZ enabled.

Re: Harmony Link app issues on Android and iOS

Logitech Support,

I continue to have the same issues--no progress. I do not have a 2Wire router, so I cannot try Archetype's suggested router settings. I have followed the manual firmware update process, but the newly reinstalled iPhone app cannot see the Link (although my computer can ping the Link and my phone).

I have a Verizon FiOS-Actiontec MI424-WR router. What is Logitech doing to address the issue that many of us still seem to be having?

Regards,

-Austin

Re: Harmony Link app issues on Android and iOS

If you want direct support I would follow the links in my signature

I would try changing the Link location in the MyHarmony setup and try to resync
