5.1 Sound in G35

I'm trying to play a game that does not currently support 7.1 sound.  When I run this game with a sound card set to 7.1, there is simply 0 audio at all.  The solution for all other sound card users has been to change the settings in windows from 7.1 to 5.1 sound.  However, the G35 does NOT have an option OTHER than 7.1 sound.  Is there a way to set this to 5.1 sound so that I can have sound or should I just take this headset back and find a 5.1 one instead?

Thanks!

Hi,

From the G35 manual:

1.4.4      G35 surround sound experience

With surround sound switched on, G35 will sound best when listening to surround sound content such as DVD movies and PC games. When listening to stereo content, like music or online video clips, G35 employs Dolby® Pro Logic® II to deliver an expanded stereo experience whereby the audio is spatialized to give it more depth and detail instead of sounding stuck in your head.

When G35 surround sound is switched off, the headset functions as a standard stereo headset.

However, despite this, the sound drivers still only support a 7.1 setting which is what needs to be changed. The headset may 'turn off' it's surround mixer when playing music or videos with 2.0 sound, but it does NOT downgrade itself to 5.1 sound as proven by this game that only supports 5.1 sound and has NONE when the game is playing.

This picture here shows the ONLY option available in the sound drivers option. Without this changed, the computer considers the headset to be 7.1 only and anything that requires lower will simply not perform correctly, despite what the 'software' decides it wants to do with the sound.

*I* am doing nothing wrong. This headset simply does not support it or if it does, you are too arrogant to think that explaining it is important. I showed you a screenshot of the ONLY setting available. Switching the switch on the headset only changes how the headset interprets sound, not whether the sound is 7.1 or 2.0. As proof, you can change the switch and it will still show 7.1 as the only option. Nevermind, I didn't actually expect help from Logitech, but I thought I'd give it a try. I took the headset back.

As a side note, I have the manual and have read it.  Even if I had not, I would have read it after the first time you basically said to read the manual.  The manual does not have any information pertaining to this as it is a driver issue and not a user issue.

Re: 5.1 Sound in G35

First off, sound card settings have nothing to do with this situation because a USB headset does not attach to a sound card.  Secondly, as mentioned, the G35 switch on the headset had no effect because it was still attempting to send 7.1 sound to the headset.  I'm afraid that the driver settings for 7.1 sound DO affect the sound as your software has NO option in it anywhere to change to another setting.  However none of this explains a situation where 5.1 sound works and 7.1 sound does not which is the issue with the headset that I hoped to resolve.  Lastly, your snide comment didn't even make any sense as I'm referring to the posts you regularly make to the users here that made me not even want to ask for help.  It doesn't matter anymore.  Perhaps the next person can get help, I'm going to another company.

Re: 5.1 Sound in G35

5.1 surround sound via logitech g35's is fine in just about everything i have tried if your game only supports 5.1 sound it doesnt matter your still getting 5.1 your not missing anything.

Call of Duty 4 for example only supports upto 5.1 surround sound and it works flawlessly with the 35's the app reports surround sound perfect date time etc.

Even works with Silent Hunter 4 which is something i never expected.
