Ok, so I am running Windows 7 and have been for a while. I just installed Mass Effect 2 and I have been unable to hear the dialouge properly and after some research I found out that this comes from running surround sound configuration on a stereo system. So I opened up my audio mixer and went to configure my headset. Windows 7 recognizes it as 7.1, but when it does the test, I can't hear anything except, the left, right and center speakers.
The headphone icon in my tray is red, and when I run the test, the timestamp for when I last heard surround sound updates to my current time, but I can only hear left right and center. Can anyone help me?

I'm trying to debug an issue with Vent, and during various checks I discovered the same issue.
Under speaker setup for the headset, it says "7.1". When I click on the test tones, all I get are L/R. If i replug my headset into the same or a different USB port, sometimes it will work correctly and I get test tones on all channels. If this happens, then I can hear people on vent. If I only get L/R, I can't hear anyone (I assume because it's probably coming out of the center channel).
In fact while I was playing tonight (after plugging in the headset twice to get 7.1), vent suddenly fell silent - the 7.1 had reverted to 2 channel again, and I couldn't hear anyone - this was without unplugging anything. I replugged the headset and was back in action.
I'm going to try some different USB ports, but I've had the same problem with at least 3 of the ports on my computer. This is a new computer, and I had zero troubles with this headset on my previous computer (which was Vista64). This new computer is Windows 7-64. If it matters, the motherboard is a Asus P6X58D Premium (X58 chipset). It also has NEC USB3 ports which I'll try.
Also note that when I have this issue, anything coming out of L/R works fine (so I can hear game sounds, music, Vent sounds, etc - just no Vent talking).

I also have the same issue:
I am running Windows 7, 32 bit. In the G35 surround sound program, i can hear left and right, front and back, but no center, subwoofer or center left/right. When i use the Windows sound configuraion utility, i only get front right and left, so i have 2 of the 7.1 speakers working. I've even tried this ingame for a few games (Oblivion, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 etc) i can't hear anything coming from the center, which is horribly distracting and annoying. Any way i can fix this issue?

Hey I just made an account to help you out with this.
I have been having the same issue. to fix it i simply shut off the Logitech driver for it by right clicking on the icon end clicking "exit". then, go to Control Panel, Sound, and Manage Audio Devices, then set the G35 back to the primary speaker
Hope this helps!
Michael

ABusFullaJewz, your solution doesn't seem to work for me.
I found out I have to physically unplug and plug the headset for 7.1 surround to kick in again.
Really annoying.
