Re: G930 Surround sound issue

[ Edited ]

I can confirm this is an issue with the Logitech Gaming Software V8.20.

When I the logitech software is on, both the logitech software and windows will only play my Left and Right channels if I try to test the surround sound.

If I turn OFF the logitech software (exit the gaming software), windows will play all the channels except the subwoofer channel.

I spent a month trying to get this headset into my hands. Now that I have it, it's just been issue after issue. I have to spend an hour trying to get my surround sound to work before I even start gaming. However, the point of my post here is that Logitechs Gaming Software is the issue.

Hopefully a customer support tech will see this post, and take the report seriously. An update needs to be released for the software package yet again, because the softwares functionality is spotty at best.

I am going to go back to the stand-alone software mentioned in the previous post. I will update this post once I have done so and confirm whether or not this has solved the problem.

(I hope it does, because this is the only sound I can use in my apartment building, and I was really excited to receive this headset... This is more than a little disappointing, Logitech. :smileysad:

**UPDATE**
So rolling back to original software package did not fix the problem. DOUBLE-YEW-TEE-EFF Logitech... what the hell is the deal here?

Re: G930 Surround sound issue

If you use an ATI video card for HDMI audio, and you have a Realtek built-in audio card, go to Realtek's site and get the "ATI HDMI Audio Device" driver:

[ Edited ]

Windows 7 64bit

Experienced problems: Laggy software, no surround sound, software crash, incorrect channels, headset buttons non-functioning, etc. Everything everyone else experienced.

I fixed it all and here is how I did it.  I repeated the process to make sure it worked a second time and was successful again.

I'm assuming you have some version of the Logitech software installed, the dongle plugged in and the headset turned on.

1. Go to "Windows Control Panel", then "Devices and Printers", right-click "Logitech G930 Headset" and click "Properties"

2. Click on the "Hardware" tab, select "Logitech G930" , click the "Properties" button.

3. You are now in "Logitech G930 Headset Properties", click "Change Settings" button.

4. Click the "Driver" tab, click "Uninstall Driver", check the box "Remove Device Drivers" and click "Yes".

5. Disconnect your dongle and turn off the headset (hold power button 5 seconds then release)

6. Open "Add or Remove Programs". I do this by clicking the "Start" button, typing the word "add" in the search box and then selecting "Add or Remove Programs" from the list.

7.  Find your Logitech software in the "Add or Remove Programs" list, double click and go through the uninstall process.

8.  Download newest Logitech software for your operating system from the Logitech website. The link to the Windows 7 64bit with gaming profiles is:

While we welcome your opinions and constructive criticism, please note that Logitech reserves the right to remove material in violation of our terms of service. Intentional violation of our Community Forums Terms of Service may result in temporary or permanent account ban.

9. Right-click the software install file once it has finished downloading and select "Open as Administrator", go through the install process.

10.  When the install finishes, the software will probably launch.  Close it by right-clicking the taskbar icon and selecting "Exit"

11. This next part is time-sensitive so be ready.  Plug in your dongle.  Windows will recognize the device and start searching for drivers for it. Click the windows notification "Installing software for your hardware" when it appears and IMMEDIATELY click the blue-text "Do not search Windows update catalog for drivers".  A warning will appear saying "You may not be getting the newest drivers, are you sure you do not want to search windows update?" , click "YES".  Windows will continue installing the drivers but will instead look for the Logitech drivers you have installed and will use those instead.  When the process is complete and says device successfully added you can close the window.

12. Unplug your dongle.

12.  Open your "Start Menu", find the "Logitech Gaming Software 8.20" (or whatever the newest version is at the time) and right-click it.  Select "Open as Administrator", click "Yes" to authorize opening it as administrator.

13.  The Logitech software is now open, but it is telling you there is no device plugged in.  Plug in your dongle, and then turn on your headset.  The Logitech software will see the headset is now connected, and now you should now have a fully functioning headset.

Additionally, in the Logitech software, click the gear icon (change application settings) and de-select everything on the "general tab" , but most importantly " Run this program when Windows starts".  From now on, when you want to use your headset, you will repeat step 12 and 13.  Before turning off your computer, remove your dongle and exit the Logitech software (Step 10). The next time you reboot your computer keep the dongle unplugged and headset off until you open the Logitech software as administrator, then plug in the dongle and turn on the headset.

Logitech, please make things easier. This took me hours to figure out, and I am not sure it will work for everyone.  Also, PLEASE MAKE SOME (GOOD) LINUX SOFTWARE.  The little bit I use Windows for gaming still makes me want to pull my hair out.

I hope this helps.

Re: G930 Surround sound issue

Hello OwenS,

Have you tried disabling the enhanced graphics option in the Logitech Gaming Software?

The Enable/Disable enhanced graphics option fully delinks LGS from your 3D accelerator library, and will require a PC restart upon selecting or disabling this option.

Re: G930 Surround sound issue

Just to confirm the problems are still there i have this headset since September and were amazing for the first few weeks then BOOM its like the software just met mr scrabbled eggs over here (not in a literal sense). i have now for WEEKS searched for ways to fix this headset, i've tryed nearly every method you could thing off... my first issue's that happened was there was only the Left & Right in surround sound. so i tried all sorts installed unistalled drivers/software to old and new. i would just like to say aswell the problems begin as intermittent but eventually became permanent for me. adter a fresh install of windows all seemed well as everything was permanently removed and started fresh However, i just found myself with the software now detecting no surround sound what so ever GREAT (SARCASM!!) so after again 14 hours stretched over two days i've looked for a fix i came across this thread and nothing worked unfortunately (Nvidia BTW so did not try the ATI thingy bob) However after unistalling drivers and software and Restarting my PC i then decided i'd give the latest software a go because you must at least be trying to fix it are't you!!!?? i then plugged in dongle then headset etc.. and at 3AM i've finally got it working, now i dont know how long its going to decide to work for but i'll let you guys know immediantly when it stops or after a week or so of continious use without a fault i'll also get back just to confirm.

Right in more detail here's what i did step by step. (windows 7)

1. unistalled driver by going to device manager (Start- My Computer- System Properties at top- at left hand side Device Manager- from there go down to sound, video and game controllers- open that tab and right click on the G930 and unistall and click RESTART LATER and then unplug the headset and dongle and headset from the dongle if yo are using the supplied extension)

2. I then went to Start- Control Panel- Scroll down to logitech software & unistalled the software.

3. at this point i restarted my PC

4. Once i started my pc i then went onto the logitech site and downloaded latest software.

link provided below:

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/wireless-gaming-headset-g930?crid=407&osid=14&bit=64

5. Once the Software has downloaded i begun to install it BUT make sure the headset is turned off and the dongle HAS NOT been plugged into the machine nor the headset we will get to that later and as crazy as it sounds i did intend on installing the software as administator but forgot however, it worked for me

6. Once the software has been iinstalled go into the Options (click on the GEAR icon on bottom right) and unitick eveything you see Top the top and bottom boxes and leave the second tab as it is N/A.

7. At this point we will close down the software (make sure you exit it in the taskbar at the bottom right too as it minimises itself when u use the cross)

8. Now plug in ONLY the Dongle, if you are using the extension provided ENSURE you un-plug the Logitech G930 Headset and is switched off (Hold power button down for 5 seconds) and please allow the drivers to install.

9. Once the Dongle Drivers  have installed (leave the dongle inserted) put the headset to steroe mode and plug in the Logitech G930 and DO NOT power it up yet, Allow the headset to install some drivers (i dont believe it installed any additional drivers this time for me but i was not paying much attention however, in the past it definately has.).

10. Once the headset has finished installing it's Drivers LEAVE it plugged in aswell as the Dongle. Now Load up the Logitech Gaming Software (Start- All Programmes- Logitech- Logitech Gaming Software) and give it a minute or two it will then automatically detect the headset, still leave it pluged in

11. Turn on the headset while it is plugged in and go acros to the DD  (Dobly Digital) section, now flip the switch down on the headset to enable the 7.1 Surround Sound and give it a second to acknowledge this (if it does not hit the refresh button).

12. Now remove the cable from the headset and place it on your noggin (might take a sec to establish a wireless connection) and make sure it is at 50% volume so it does not damgae your ears or distort in any way.

13. Finally after  following this marathon amount of instructions you can click on the "Experience Surround Sound" Tab and enjoy :-D the dolby digital 7.1 should now be working again.

I sincerely hope this works for you and i believe the lack of knowledge, support and testing from Logitech is unbelievable however don't be knocked by this dodgy headset as there other products have had quite a different  experience IMO (Be Similar situation with the RAZER mamba 2012 that is serious pain in the rear and way overpriced mouse that just freezes up all the time) i would just like to add Logitech this is not for your benefit but for my own as this Headset is amazing WHEN it works but the issue's surrounding it over the years are unnacceptable especially when the problem still persist's today and i do think some of your other products have been quite spectacular and helped you reach the reputation you have today of being a reliable manufacturer of PC components.

I only posted this out of pure frustration of the hours and time i have spent trying to fix this headset and my intention to hopefully save some time and effort for those that purchase or receive this headset over the christmas period. if your feeling festive over there at logitech you can chuck a Logitech G13 my way if you want hahahaaaa only joking.....happy holidays all.

.....zzzZZZzZz finally time to catch some sleep.....^-^
