G930 Surround sound

Bought these a couple of days ago, when I bought my new rig.

Previously had a pair of G35s which... snapped in half when I took them off my head. Wasn't too impressed by that, but I must admit that the sound quality was brilliant so I invested in some G930s

Having built the new rig and gotten it up and running it's become apparent that the surround sound is not working.

I'm running w7 64x

It's a fresh install. I have the basic drivers running plus whatever drivers i need for my peripherals.

The battery symbol is greyed out on my driver panel for the g930, as is the dolby symbol. I have two speakers highlighted, but no matter how much I switch the surround sound switch on the headphones it does nothing.

I've tried moving the wireless dongle for the headphones - it's currently in the back of my computer but it's been in multiple USB ports throughout multiple restarts and it's not done anything.

The drivers do lag up a bit when I switch the surround sound switch on/off, but it doesnt register with the actual program.

And it's not just a visual error, I've tested it with movies that are 7.1 and it's just the standard two speakers.

I payed the $170 aus for the surround sound, not a flashy pair of wireless speakers. I could spend $40 and get the same quality as what I currently have. The cursory glance around the forums and google seems to show a prevailing opinion that there isn't a fix. If not I'll certainly be demanding my money back.

Does anyone have any insight to the matter?

I imagine I'll be calling customer service pretty soon if the issue isn't resolved.
