Four monthes ago I recieved the Logitech G930 Wireless Headset. My first impressions were high: it has fantastic audio, decent microphone qualltiy, a nice design, decent software, nice features, good wireless signal and what was seemily a good build quallity - something logitech is reknown for. 

About a month and a half ago I had a problem with the headset. I saw a crack forming in the plastic covering of the cup swivel pivot on both sides of the headset, this is the plastic which has four screws holes in it and from which the headset size is adjusted. It was annoyed that it happend so quickly after purchase but it I decided to leave it for the time being.

Three weeks ago the crack must have gotten larger while using it as I saw a pieace of plastic fall to the floor. I had noticed it was from where the crack had formed orignally, there was little I could really do about it at this point, so after searching for the problem on google I found various forum posts complaining about a build design issue in which this swivel point is poorly supported and very fragile. Apparently one person in emailed Logitech about this weeks before it was properly released but he had no response. The recomandations were to tape over the swivel of the cup tightly with cellotape or electrical tape, i've done this but it has not protected it, as now the entire plastic casing has brokenoff the swivel and the cup hangs loose.

The cup can reamin inside plastic if pushed in tightly and qucikly placed on my head but it's really quite ridiculous that I have to do this for such an expensive headset after just four monthes. I have treated this headset like royalty after bad experinces with Razer in which the sound splitter was faulty in two headsets they sent me. My headset before hand was a cheap, £15-20 headset that lasted me three years - and that one had some abuse. This headset is four monthes old and has been treated carefully. Admitlly it has heavy use and I spend alot of time on my PC but a headset designed and advertised for gamers is supposed to be of high build quallity, long lasting and durable, especially for this price!

This is not a complaint at Logitech; I think they are one of the best, if not the best peripherals company around. I just find this really disapointing and frustrating as being a student I do not have the money to replace a headset birthday gift which I had hoped to last a long time. I just wanted to point out what could be a very big design flaw, I could just be unlucky but I wouldn't want other people having the same problem as me, I hope someone can put light on the problem.

I am going to bump all the threads I can find on this topic as I think anyone considering this purchase right now should be aware of the issue.  I just sent my G930's back on Friday after 4 months of use(maybe a total of 10 hours) with the exact same issue.  I am shocked becasue I babied those things, I treated my Trittons much worse and I sold those after 5 years in perfect working order.  I even came up with a hanging cradle for these so they did not have to lay on the desk putting and stress on the muffs, but nonetheless the plastic holding the right muff shattered and fell off.

I must say the warranty support was prompt and friendly, almost as if they knew what I was going to say.  But the proof is in the pudding and we will see how fast I get my new set and if they have the same issues.  I hope not.

I have the same cracking problem and havent even used these for a year. I hope warranty will replace them for me.

Both sides on mine have cracked and its actually worse than it looks because on one of the sides the plastic actually came off. I just pushed the piece that came off  back in like a puzzle so its not all completely dangly.

I think probably the easiest solution for Logitech would be to replace that piece of plastic with an aluminum cap and it would probably solve the problem. All these RMA's under warranty must be expensive for Logitech. One thing i noticed is that the ear cups are pretty heavy from all the hardware in them and if you tilt the headset, they kind of go swinging and smack into the socket end limit which is probably what is cracking the plastic. You shouldn't have to treat an expensive set of headphones like they are made from egg shell however. It's clear with the rest of the build quality that they intended these to be durable. I just don't think they planned on that plastic piece taking stress from the cups turning day in and day out. Let's hope they fix this with my suggestion or some other fix because this is just going to keep happening if they don't address it. It's clearly a design issue.

Is there a third party that would create and sell a metal part to fix this? Would logitech provide replacement plastic parts?

currently they are simply RMAing devices under warranty TMK.

if someone creates that metal piece i would def buy 2 of them my 3rd g930 is incoming right now... lets hope it will last longer

Mine lasted 8 months, then I picked them up yesterday and the piece of plastic fell away. When I inspected them more closely I saw that it was the cover at those pivot points...the other side cover just had a crack in it and had already started to lift.

I called Logitech today, absolutely no problem, they agreed to replace them under warranty.

A metal replacement part does sound like a good solution, I'll see if the replacement set has that modification.

I bought a set for my son in July, and the right cup had a crack in it out of the box.  This was only bought to my attention though when the whole thing fell apart leaving just the screws in place.  Yes, and you guessed it, the left side also has cracks in it.  I have made two metal replacements.  Using gal tire down strap, paper for template, pencil, sissors, hammer, file, vice, wirecutters and two drill bits..  Took me a while and they're a bit dodgy, but my son reports that "seems OK".  I'd happily pay $20 for a good pair made by someone with sheet metalwork skill!  Come-on Logitech, metal caps would top off a great product.
