Logitech headset H540 is not recognized on windows 7 64bit

My new logitech headset H540 is not recognized on my laptop (Dell latitude 6520) running on Windows 7 64bit.

When its plugged-in, its identified as 'Logitech USB Headset H540' and appears in 'devices and printers'.

However, the category shows as 'unknown' and status says 'requires troubleshooting'.

Running the troubleshooting options suggests a driver needs to be installed. But this step fails saying that there's no driver available.

In the device manager, it appears under 'Other devices' with a yellow warning icon.

I tried the same headset on another laptop (Dell latitude 820) running on windows 7 and it works perfect.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

regards, Nagaraja

Any chance that you can force Windows to manually install the drivers?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure, how to force windows to install the driver.

I tried to update the driver from device manager --> Manually select the driver --> choose device type as Generic USB Audio -> Select USB Audio Device driver.

This step failed to install the driver with  'This device cannot start (code 10)' error.

Re: Logitech headset H540 is not recognized on windows 7 64bit

If you can get your hands on the drivers, then the steps you take should give you an option to browse to the location of the driver.

You probably won't see what you need in Devices and Printers. You need to be in "Device Manager". "Sound, video and game controllers". Then you need to point it at a local file. Question is, which drivers do you need? And where are they? They are probably somewhere on your PC, but where?

Have you filed an official support request?

I tried through Device manager. The headset is listed in 'Other devices'. As you said, don't know which drivers to pickup.

Did not file an official support request yet.

Did you read this:

Software and drivers for my USB headset - Logitech FAQ

I wonder if there is something left over on your PC that is getting in the way of the drivers installing.

If you go into Device Manager, go to the "View" menu and tell it to "Show hidden devices".

You may find a stack of "greyed" out entries in "Sound, video and game controllers". If you see suspicious headsets in there, "right-click" "uninstall".

It is a good idea to save your system before doing things like this. Then you can "Restore" if things go wrong.

Have you tried inserting the headset into a different port? Windows likes to install the drivers for every port. (That is why Device Manager shows all those hidden devices.) Maybe this would convince it to try again.

Re: Logitech headset H540 is not recognized on windows 7 64bit

[ Edited ]

I've the same problem with my H340 headset. I post the problem here: another post in this forum

I've also none "hidden" devices and also none other previous-wrong devices (from other tested USB ports), I've only the one under "Other devices".

I test the headset on other Windows x64 and it works and I see it uses drivers (5/6 files) from ..system32\drivers folder.
I'm thinking to manually copy that files... (I'm unable to check if that are the same in the moment)

[Edit: I've corrected the link to the other post]
