Microphone static

I just purchased a C270 webcam and microphone set and both the microphone on the webcam and the microphone on the headset have a lot of static on them. I have figured out it is caused by my tv (which i use as the computer monitor). Is there a reason or solution for this?

Re: Microphone static

Hi alnic,

Static sounds are often caused by microphone/speaker feedback or bad/inappropriate connection. You can at least minimize the static input by considering the following options:

  • Try to disable the microphone on either the headset or the webcam, depending on which you would like use. Just disable this in Sounds Properties (for Windows Vista and 7: Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sounds > Sounds > Recording tab > right-click on C270 Microphone or USB Microphone for headset > select Disable > click on OK). If the headset is plugged in via 2 jack plugs, just unplug the pink jack plug (microphone).
  • If you are using external speakers, level the television volume down to zero.
  • Make sure that the microphone is as far from the speakers as conveniently possible.

Hope that helps to address the issue.

Warm Regards,
