Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

[ Edited ]

Hi All,

I have a RealTek sound card built on to my Vista laptop. I also have a Creative Blaster PCMCIA Audigy 2 sound card installed. As well I have a ClearChat Wireless headset connected and an AudioHub USB speaker. During the day I will add a G35 USB headset and several other USB and analog headsets. I have yet to have a problem getting any of these devices to work.

There is no conflict with sound cards or other devices.

Depending on the application you are using, Windows Control Panel/Sounds settings might be overridden. Skype can use a device other than the default Windows device.

Just plugging in the headset and starting an application may not result in the device working.

You will have to look for a Preferences, audio set up, or similar configuration applet in the application you are using.

If you would like help with this you can provide details here in a post or at the Help provided by the application.

The fact that the headset works on other computers, always a great test for USB devices by the way, points to settings or drivers on your system.

The drivers are provided by the operating system.

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

Hi,

Nothing in the information you provided covers this:

Depending on the application you are using, Windows Control Panel/Sounds settings might be overridden. Skype can use a device other than the default Windows device.

Just plugging in the headset and starting an application may not result in the device working.

You will have to look for a Preferences, audio set up, or similar configuration applet in the application you are using.

I think we have proven it is not hardware but software, (applications) settings.

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

Sorry, I was speaking of simply using it in Windows (event sounds) and WMP.  The control panel settings are as follows:

AUDIO...

Playback = Logitech Wireless Headset

Recording = Logitech Wireless Headset

MIDI = Creative Soundfont Synth

VOICE...

Playback = Logitech Wireless Headset

Recording = Logitech Wireless Headset

Speaker settings in both Windows Sound and Creative Application and set for the headphones.  The Creative Application (Creative Surround Mixer) is set to "synchronize" with Windows Sound Settings.  The Creative Apps recognize the headphones and they test fine.  I have double-checked both Windows Sound settings and the Creative software for any settings other than heaphones... there is no other option for the Clearchat set.

My daughter only uses the headphones in WMP and Internet Explorer (eg: You Tube).

Other than games, she has no other sound-using software like Skype or iTunes.  I am testing by playing MP3s with WMP.

Anything else?

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

Hi,

One last thing. When in the COntrol Panel/Sounds app, under the Voice Tab you'll see a Test hardware button. What happens when you do the test?

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

The Mic picks up my voice during the Rec test, and then I can hear my voice during the Playback test... when done it says the test completed successfully.

FYI, the headphones' volume control works on my machine...

Athlon64 6400+

ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wi-Fi

4GB Crucial PC6400 DDR2 RAM

XFX GF260 XXX Video Card

Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme Music

2 x 1TB WD SATA2 HDDs

Silverstone 850w PSU

WindowsXP SP3

DirectX 9.0c Aug Update

All latest drivers and updates

Same settings as my daughter, same test results.

It seems to be an issue between the headphones and the AudigyLS.  Anyway, the left channel keeps cutting out (you can manipulate this by wiggling left earpiece), so we are looking at getting my daughter different headphones.

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

Hi,

The headset is defective. Please contact  Technical Support for a replacement. I don't think this is the cause of the problem but the earpiece is defective.

Re: Clearchat PC Wireless Volume controls not working

Further to my post on January 20, I've come back to mention that the ClearChat PC Wireless volume controls work perfectly on the Vista Home Basic laptop I tried. While it's disappointing that they don't work on my Windows XP PC, I did not buy it primarily for use with that computer, so I am happy with its suitability for my purpose. To give Logitech credit, everything else about this product I find excellent, including the style, comfort, and especially the audio quality. Definitely a worthwhile investment.
