Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset Volume drops to zero

When I use the ClearChat Comfort USB Headset, the volume is very low.  Clicking on the speaker icon in the taskbar shows the volume slider at the bottom. When I move the slider up, the volume marker (thumb) just slides back down to the bottom on its own.

Searching the web, it looks like I'm not the only one having this problem. There were several comments regarding this problem in this forum as well. I couldn't gfigure out how to search these forums, but Google found the other references.

I had this problem under Vista and Vista SP1. For some unknown reason it went away and worked fine. I've since upgraded my system to Windows 7 (RTM) and the headset has worked fine for the past month or so. Now in the past couple days the problem with volume dropping has returned. I've tried connecting it to several different USB ports (one on the front panel of the PC and 3 on the rear panel of the PC). I haven't bothered using it with a USB hub.

When the headset is connected to my PC's USB port(s), the volume indicator is always visiblenear the lower left corner of my screen, just above the task bar. This is the horizontal indicator that normally only appears when you adjust the volume. Instead of disappearing once the volume adjustment is made, the indicator just stays on screen.

Hi,

Try uninstalling the headset in Device manager, then click Scan for new devices under Actions.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset Volume drops to zero

Hi Mike_M, I tried your suggestion, however, the problem still exits windows does a refresh, sees the usb connected headset, but does the same thing RE: lower the volume when you try to readjust it, could this be a service pack related issue? Also are there any other suggestions that you can recommend?

Uninstalling and scanning for new devices didn't change the behavior. The volume still drops.

I fixed my issue: On the Logitech USB headset cord, grab the volume control. Press the mute button, press up and down. press mute again. Make sure its unmute. Goto volume on your taskbar, move the volume the opposite direction that it's moving. See if it moves.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset Volume drops to zero

Pressing the mute button didn't work for me. When I push near the top +, it doesn't do anything - the volume slider doesn't change. When I push on the bottom -, the red LED starts to flash, but the volume slider doesn't change. Pushing the buttom makes it alternate between flashing and not-flashing, but the slider doesn't do anything when I pick near top or bottom. If I open the Windows Volume Mixer and use my mouse to move the thumb (slider button) it will move but when I release it, it still drops to the bottom.

BTW, I checked to see if the Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset was included in the list of products compatible with Windows 7 and saw that it was. I also tried to see if there was any other support info on this product and learned that the model number listed on their website is A-00008. The model number on my product is A-00009. I cannot find any information for A-00009.

I tried emailing Logitech tech support, but they no longer have email tech support. The only way to contact them is with a non toll free phone number.I'd rather not waste my money with a call.

I don't think Logitech supports this product any more. Does anyone have a recommendation for a better product from a different manufacturer? I don't think I'll ever buy a Logitech product again.

Hi,

The xxxx09 is the ClearChat Comfort, xxxx08 is ClearChat Pro. Both are current products. Email is operarting again after a brief hiatus while some changes were made. Both headsets work in Windows 7.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset Volume drops to zero

If email is working, then why did it just respond with this:

Email support is temporarily unavailable. Unfortunately, we will not be able to receive new e-mails or respond to any prior e-mails at this time.

We suggest you check out support site at Logitech.com/support if you have a support question. Our support site contains answers to many frequently asked questions, software downloads, product features, and product documentation. If you still have a question, you can call us during our regular operating hours.

We apologize for the inconvenience. This is a temporary situation while we upgrade our e-mail system in order to serve you better.

And, if my headset works with Windows 7, can you explain why the volume slider keeps dropping to zero?

Hi,

I apologize for the email reference, it is indeed down again.

RE : The volume slider.

Here is a list of things it can be and solutions to try:

1. Corrupt USB driver

In Device Manager, in either Sounds, multimedia or Universal Serial Bus controllers, delete the headset and either reboot or scan for new hardware. This will re-install the USB driver.

2. Try a different computer

If the problem follows to the second computer it will prove the headset is defective.

A less effective option would be try a different USB port on the same computer, but it would have to be a USB port the headset has never been tried in.

Make sure that all sound applications are closed except for the volume control in the main Mixer window.

All current USB headsets have been tested with the RTM version of WIndows 7 and all have passed. This includes the ClearChat Comfort and ClearChat Pro USB headsets.
