Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset

Hi,

I purchased this headset this afternoon and plugged it in to test. The sound works perfectly, but the microphone isn't being identified. It is plug-and-play, with a microphone jack and headphone jack, no USB. I have tried the front and back ports, no luck. I have tried reinstalling my audio drivers, restarting, reading some posts here for any clues or solutions, read posts elsewhere for help, and still no luck. I use Windows Vista Home Premium. I tried plugging it into my parent's computer, and it worked perfectly. They use Windows XP Pro. This is the first problem I've had with Logitech products and Windows Vista, any help would be much appreciated.

Yes. The microphone isn't listed in the Recording tab. My computer doesn't even register that the microphone is plugged in. I can get sound, but I can't record.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset

Hi Gar,

As this is an analog headset, the device you are looking for is your sound card. The headset is an accessory to your sound card, not the computer.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset

We can spell things out clearer with more info.  Follow the instructions in the sticky, and when you run into a hiccough, come and report exactly what you're looking at that isn't what you see in the sticky.  Remember, you're not looking for "Logitech USB Headset", but the name of your sound card.  So in Control Panel -> Sounds And Audio Devices, under the "Audio" tab, you should have your sound card listed under both sound playback and sound recording.  And so on.  When you hit a place where you can't follow the sticky (i.e. you don't see any options under sound recording, or you can't select microphone levels, or whatever) come tell us what it is.  "It isn't being recognized" isn't enough info.  It's no problem not being computer literate, but don't guess what the problem is ("the device isn't being recognized"), tell us every detail about what you're seeing, and we can try and guess what the problem is.

Thanks, hope to help,

Cameron

Re: Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset

Alright, I plugged in the headphones and was able to get sound, however, I could not speak into the microphone or record. I tried the Windows Sound Recorder and it complained that no microphone was plugged in. It pushed me into the Sound window which is in Control Panel. There are tabs, "PLAYBACK" "RECORDING" and "SOUNDS." In playback, there's a slot called Speakers, which is in use and transmitting sound to the headphones. There is also Digital Output Device (SPDIF) which is currently disabled. Both are High Definition Audio Devices. Under the Recording tab, it says "No Audio Devices are Installed." There is a switch on the headset for turning the Mic on and off, so before you ask, yes I did try it. The Headset has a headphone input and microphone input, it is not USB. I still tried to follow the directions in the sticky to the best of my ability, but when it comes to adjusting the options in the recording tab, I cannot go further as the computer doesn't appear to know the microphone is plugged in. I have tried reinstalling my audio drivers. It is a generic High Definition Audio drivers, when the computer first shipped (This is a Dell,) I had SigmaTel, but I uninstalled it because I couldn't use those drivers when I dual booted Windows XP. (I am using Vista most of the time. I have not tried the headphones with the Windows XP partition.) I have also tried plugging the headset into the front set of jacks and the back set. I hope this is enough info.

Re: Logitech ClearChat Stereo Headset

Hi Gar,

You seem to have a problem with the mic input on your sound card. I suggest you contact Dell support to work out that issue.

[ Edited ]

Gar - I had the same issue.  I have 2 things going on.  1.  My mic won't work from the front jacks.  2.  From the back jack, the microphone had to be in my mouth for the MS recognition software to pick it up.

Try eating the microphone (being pretty literal too) and see if that works.

For what it's worth, once I realized sound could be picked up... I tried the Skype test call, and I could hear myself played back with the mic at normal levels.  Just not sure why my front mic jack won't work.

Also with a Dell.

Hi All,

Often motherboards with multiple inputs need a software switch to ensure you do not use two similar inputs simultaneously. Defaults are usually the rear inputs.
