Premium notebook headset mic issues

Just got these today. plugged them into my laptop (analog) and while I can get sound I can't seem to get the mic to pick up anything. I was worried that perhaps the mic was broken. I plugged in through the USB dongle and everything worked fine. I'd rather not use the USB deal because then I have two audio ports not in use and one less usb port.

I should point out that the build in mics in my laptop pickup wihout a problem and if I plug the headphone jack into the mic port and yell into it, it picks up.

Hi Und,

Have you considered the mic in jack on your computer as being the source of the issue?

The on board mic does not go through this connection. If the mic works in USB mode the whole product works as the two jacks plugs connect to the USB dongle.

I understand that the mic is the end point of the issue but it is not the sole point of failure.

Re: Premium notebook headset mic issues

Well that was my first thought, which is why I plugged the headphone jack into the mic port. Since they work on the same principal I was able to get audio input through my right headphone. That leads me to conclude that the jack is not the issue. I assume the mic although having a double banded jack is in fact mono. Perhaps it transmits through left channel? Maybe the fact that I can only pickup through my headphones with the right earpiece indicated that it IS in fact a problem with the jack?

Thanks

Ha, turns out you were right. It appears that it's the left channel that picks up. I've fiddled around with the jack and it appears to be working now. Thanks for the help.
