diNovo Mac edition issues with waking with lid closed

I have connected an older MacBook Pro to my home theatre to serve as a media server/internet browser.

For some reason, when I close the lid on the laptop and attempt to wake it using the diNovo, it will turn on for a few seconds, then display a message on the screen saying the keyboard has been disconnected and return to sleep mode.

I have checked the box in System Preferences allowing bluetooth devices to wake the computer from sleep, but to no avail. With the lid open, the keyboard works perfectly, but it would be much nicer to be able to use it while closed.I'm able to do this with my Apple wireless keyboard without an issues, however the lack of a trackpad makes it inferior in a home theater environment.

If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, any suggestions would be really appreciated!
