Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

[ Edited ]
Hi folks,
The Dinovo Edge is amazingly sylish and all but what's with the really annoying keyboard sound when you hit 'caps lock'?
Does anyone know how to turn it off?  (For those who don't know, there's a tiny 'beeper' speaker in the keyboard itself and when you hit caps lock it beeps)

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Hi sgtpokey,

First I would like to thank you for choosing the diNovo Edge as your desktop unit. From your post, I...

All of the keyboard notification is controlled by SetPoint. You can set the notification and sound to be shown/ring when it activated or deactivated. Launch SetPoint and click My Tools tab. In this tab you will find another tab call notification where the cap lock check box is located.

Please do let me know if the issue still persists so that I could offer further assistance if needed.

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Hello, unfortunately your suggestion does not work for the DiNovo Edge keyboard.

That option in setpoint did nothing.  The Beep still happens when I hit capslock, even if I restart the computer after making the change.  I can also test that I am making changes correctgly since I can correctly turn on/off the visual cue.

It looks like that setpoing setting only affects the sound played by the computer.  However, the DinovoEdge also has a built-in Beeper on the keyboard itself.  It is that beep that occurs whenever you hit caps lock (and it is very annoying if you are playing games where the caps lock key is mapped to a game control)

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Hi sgtpokey,

Thank you for the reply. Even if the keyboard has a built-in beep sound, it should be disabled when the option is unchecked in SetPoint. To verify on this, please have SetPoint uninstalled, restart the computer and check whether the issue still occurs.

If the issue does not persist after uninstalling SetPoint, do a clean installation of SetPoint and this might help to resolve the issue.

Please do let me know if the issue still persists so that I could offer further assistance if needed.

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Hello again,

Okay, I uninstalled Setpiont and rebooted.  While rebooting (during the beginning of the post process)  the beep sound DID go away.  However, midway through the boot and once in Windows, the beep came back.  I did verify that Setpoint was uninstalled, no registry entries, and no files left over in the Document & Settings/NAME/Appliciation Data.

So then I installed the latest version of Setpoint, taking it from the website directly.

I went to the tools configuration and verified that the "signal status changes with a sound" checkbox was NOT checked.  However, the beep still played.  I then checked it and tested, unchecked, rebooted and tested, and performed a further variety of tests.  At all times the beep sound still chimed.

Perhaps it's a bug when using XP Media Center 2005?

My setup is:
Logitech DiNova Edge
MX revolution
Setpoint ver 3.1.116
Windows XP Media Center 2005

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Hi sgtpokey,

Thank you for the reply. It is indeed confusing as to why the beep sound still appears even when the options is disabled. I have rechecked again and found that the option of unchecking the 'signal status.......' is just to disable the cap lock notification. There is another option under the keyboard tools to totally disable the beep sound.  Go to the My Keyboard tab, then select the keyboard preference tab on your left and there is a title called Keyboard Preferences. Under this title, there is an option called 'Beep when i press Caps Lock'. Uncheck this and it will stop the chime sound.

Please do let me know if you have any further enquiries.

Hi,

Is there any external way to disable the sound, i.e. without using the SetPoint utility? I'm using MacBook Pro and there is no SetPoint utility for Mac. :smileysad:

Re: Dinovo Edge: How to turn off the sound when you hit 'Caps Lock'??

Yes, please try to have this fixed, it is unbelievably annoying, and the ONLY thing that I know of that I don't like about the keyboard.
Some have even complained about there not being a numpad, but I planned ahead and shopped for both.

I looked around my OS and could not see any obvious config files that would turn it off.
Wishfull thinking i guess
