MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

MX5000 keyboard & mouse - bt problems...

Hi and thanks for taking my question. I have the kb/ms setup and it was working pretty well for about a month or so. Now both components have their own issues, where the only way to fix it is with a reboot. (xp sp3)

The keyboard will work for most of the day and behaving properly. Then, some time after about 9 hours or so, mid-typing a work and the screen starts to fill with " `````````````````````````````" and that goes on and on and on. Anywhere I click, it picks up from there. I am unable to close anything, much less save my work which really stinks because I am elbow deep in code. I have tried to turn the keyboard off - no good, take out the batteries - no good, I have taken out the batteries and pressed keys randomly for some 5 minutes to drain the power out of the keyboard - no good. I need to reboot the system and when I try to use the keyboard, the same thing, forcing me to go and buy a cheap usb keyboard as backup. I plug the usb keyboard in only after that second reboot when I have given up on the keyboard. The next morning, all behaves proper again. This is beyond an inconvenience, it is broken.

As for the mouse, it too develops issues during the day. It seems to be random in terms of when it starts. It does not matter how much charge is in the mouse (from full to on the verge of dying) it will start to get "lazy". If I were to move across my screen in a figure 8, my motions would be ahead of the cursor and I would need to wait for it to catch up. I guess the best way I can describe it would be as if the mouse trails are on and when you stop you wait for the trail to catch up. Only for me, the tail end of the trail is the part that actually matters. Sometimes in my frustration I will quickly move the mouse across the screen as if one were scribbling on a piece of paper. Sometimes it helps, but mostly not. Sometimes I need to lift the mouse off the pad and place it down. Honestly, there is not much I can do other than a reboot. I have used the mouse on a standard cloth mousepad, a flat piece of copy paper, as well as one of those pads designed for laser mice. It hurts productivity as I have to spend too much time waiting to get the cursor in the proper position and I have no accuracy. I click when I think it is where it should be. I get very frustrated especially when they both decide to misbehave simultaneously. Again, this is beyond an inconvenience, it is broken.

I bought this about a month ago. I keep the box with the receipt. All boxes I toss after 4 weeks as I feel if the product works after that long, it will be fine. Unfortunately that was not the case, the receipt went with the box and then the items started breaking down.

Please help. I really like they way they function. I love the keyboard and the mouse is pretty good, too. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

So I guess they still havent fixed these issues then...

I bought that set two years ago and after fighting with that for a couple months I just ditched them and never looked back. The BT in it is bunk. The only thin you can try is getting a USB extenstion and pluggin the BT receiver withing 6" of your keyboard and mouse...

Re: MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

Oh this stinks. I really do love the keyboard. The mouse is a bit heavy for me, but I still like the features. I almost wouldn't mind if it were only the mouse, but the keyboard thing is the most annoying. There is no breaking out of that one. It is an utter shame how business is run these days. Market fast and cheap at the expense of quality and satisfaction. Dang this is so disappointing.

Re: MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

I am experiencing the same issue. Mine even deleted all of my e-mails in my inbox after hitting the delete button for one e-mail. This happened twice. It also just starts typing a letter and continues on. Just crazy things.

I have purchased several brands of keyboards and mice and I still think Logitech has the best product but I learned after the fact about the issues with this model.

We shall see what support says.

Thanks!

Re: MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

I know this problem is related to the connection.  From what I can tell, you are typing or mousing and the connection will be lost momentarily.  As far the computer knows, you are still holding down the key or moving the mouse because it hasn't been able to send the command that it has stopped.  That is why smashing the keyboard against a brick wall won't do anything to stop it.  Ctrl+Z has been a life saver.  I have found unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in will fix the problem.  I have it on an extension cable, and it's about a foot away from everything.  I read that plugging it in the front USB port might help, but I don't know if that only helps for people without an extension cable.

I would try a different Bluetooth stack, but I use Bluetooth headphones.  One annoying thing with using headphones is that the music will slow down and speed up.  This stuff is wonky.

Re: MX5000 keyboard and mouse possessed

Unpluging BT receiver will help in most situations, but for mine good idea is... do not install Logitech Software for that set. If drivers/software is not installed, combo works perfectly without breakouts, if installed there might be a problems (lost connections, lazy mouse etc.) in most causes when system is old (try install software if you must, on fresh installed system!!!). Irecomend to use Set Point 4.6 with BT if you must have it
