Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

[ Edited ]

I bought one of these when they first came out. Loved it. Recommended it to all my friends.

Earlier this week, the enter key broke on mine. the actual scissor mechanism, not something i can just pop back in place. So what did I do? Went to bestbuy and bought the exact same one.  Plugged it in, noticed the keystrokes didn't feel nearly as crisp as my old one (desite my old one being, well, old). "Oh well, I can live with that" i thought.  Started up a game, tried to jump forward while sprinting. lolwut?

AntonC, saying this is just a byproduct of the matrix is [Mod edit: Per our community terms of use, please be courteous] . The original matrix used for this keyboard had no such issue. So somewhere along the line there was a concious decision to change from the one they had been using. An intentional decision. A planned decision.  My guess is, probably around the same time they decided to cheapen the key action.

Also, saying "oh the G110 is the same price but doesn't have this problem" is  [Mod edit: please be courteous] . The G110's key action is like a $5 dell/hp/whatever keyboard. I bought this one originally because i wanted the slim profile, the short keystroke distance, and the absence of a dozen extra programmable space-occupying clutter. Oh, with illumiation. Which of your models has that?

Between this and my G5 magically turning off when turned it on it's side, thanks but no thanks Logitech. Glad I kept the receipt

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

Hi larrylee,

I definitely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, currently we do not offer a slim profile illuminated keyboard designed specifically for gaming. I've forwarded this thread to the appropriate decision makers in the product team. We will update the community if there are any additional information on future changes to they keyboard matrix.

As always, please feel free to contact our customer care team at anytime if your product requires repair/replacement within the warranty period.

AntonC - I don't think either you or Logitech as the company realize what this thread is all about. It's not about a problem on one keyboard. It's also not a problem with a series.

It's about Logitech's decision to cut costs on a €100 piece of hardware that typically costs <€10 to produce.

It's not that you don't know how to do it properly. It's about you deciding *later* in the product lifecycle to lessen its quality.

And the problem is that you decided to do this across the board. You sell some of your keyboards for €200 and more and even there you can't keep quality checked. Same goes for much of your product portfolio.

And when people have issues with consequences of your decisions, your company doesn't even provide enough of you tech support guys to listen to our problems and at least make us feel like you care. What hurts the most is that that wasn't always the case. I remember the time when Logitech tech support was something to write home about. Now it's just a (small) bunch of off-sourced underpaid people offering no real support. No offence meant here, but I sure hope somebody high enough took the time to read this thread and see things like they are.

This policy will not hold forever. Us enthusiasts represent a very small minority of your customers, but we have lots of suggestive power with our friends, relatives and other people around us. If we are unhappy, sales will eventually go down! And once our unhapiness shows on your sales, going back up will be insanely hard because by then every Joe Sixpack will know that Logitech skimps on material.

Why can't you realize this and act accordingly? You are risking thousands of jobs and millions of income for 5% of additional revenue on your products.

And they used to be such great products!

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

A very diplomatic way to say "that's nice, now go away".  I bought something, for $80, however long ago, and it worked fine. When it finally gave out, I bought the same thing, still for $80 (usually tech stuff gets cheaper with time), and now it can't do what the old one could.

Something any keyboard can do. Something my other logitech keyboards that aren't gaming keyboards can do, including the $60 wireless one i have hooked to my htpc. Something my old microsoft and even old hp and dell keyboards can do. Something--and this is the important part--something this exact same model keyboard that i have sitting in front of me still can do.

So it's not a standard issue with the matrix. Preserving that functionality isn't a premium for your gaming series keyboards. It's something logitech's non-gaming keyboards have been able to do since I started buying keyboards. It's something the $15 microsoft keyboard i just bought can do (guess what, it's not a gaming series keyboard either).

My frustration is this. This was a basic functionality specifically eliminated, not a premium function that failed to be added. What's next, disabling ctrl+alt+del unless we buy a premium productivity series keyboard? disabling ctrl+enter or alt+enter and whatnot unless we buy a premium web keyboard? A mouse that only moves in the x-axis unless we buy a premium up-and-down series mouse? A spoon with a hole in the bottom unless we buy a premium liquid-carrying spoon?

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

Have had my Logitech Illuminated for some time. Since it was 1st announced I think? Anyways the PID is #LZ841BD and it does the W Shift Space fine.

Been having some issues with keys responding and stuff so I bought a new one. PID for that new one is LZ101BS. W Shift Space DOESN'T work for this one.

LOGITECH, WHY DOES W SHIFT SPACE WORK FOR MY OLDER ILLUMINATED KEYBOARD BUT NOT THE NEW ONE? THE P/N FOR BOTH KEYBOARDS IS THE SAME: 820-001268.

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

So I just stumbled upon this thread today and I can see that beings how this thread is over 8 months old that there isnt a legit fix to this problem yet. As someone had earlier stated I just thought that the W Shift Space functionality in BC2 was disabled by the game to prevent the bunny hop. Is there anything that we can do to get this fixed so we have the same privlages as other players with crap keyboards? I love logitech, practically every external device I own is from them and I would like to keep it that way, but I would also like my keyboard to have the functionality it deserves. If you go to Newegg.com right now and look at the sheer volume of these keyboards sold and the high rating it recieves you wouldnt think there woudl be a problem this substantial involved, and I know for a fact by reading the reviews as I did before purchasing it that many of those people bought it for gaming purposes. Other than this problem the keyboard is amazing for gaming in my opinion. Logitech please stay true to your customers and help us!

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

Just bought the keyboard yesterday after browsing in the store for quite some time and I'm very disappointed in Logitech now that I stumbled on this thread. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect something so basic to not work with a keyboard these days.

While they are technically correct that various "non-gaming" keyboards have key input limitations that lock when pressed, this specific combination is NOT a common limitation at all. I've had easily 15 different keyboards over the years and have never once ran into this issue. What's even more of a slap in the face is that early models worked just fine so clearly something changed.

Since there isn't much that Logitech can do (or is willing to do) about this, I suggest you vote with your wallet and go with another brand. I will be returning mine (thankfully it's new and I have the receipt) and will be going elsewhere.

Re: BEWARE: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

I just bought this keyboard to replace a 8 year old Logitech media keyboard.  Started playign BFBC2 today and whammo same problem...no Shift+W+Spacebar.

that's insane.

I really hope they can produce a firmware or software fix for this...I see no reason why this shouldn't work.

What, do I have to return this now and go with a MSFT keyboard??
