Battery for K750 Solar Keboard

I have two questions before ordering the K750 keyboard.  First, it requires a battery, but the battery replacement does not seem to be available from Logitech or anyone else.  It is not available in the parts department and is not shown when you follow the link from a page describing the battery.

A related question is, will the keyboard work without the battery given sufficient light...or is the battery required?  In other words, do the solar panels just charge the battery or do they power the keyboard and then charge the battery for times that light is not availalbe?  If they need the batteries and they are not available, the keyboard would become obsolete the first time the battery failed or needed replacement.

Hi JoA63,

The K750 uses a ML2032 battery. Currently it is not listed in the parts store, but it should be available from other online retailers. I will ask our support team to take a look at the possibility of adding this to the parts store. For more information regarding the K750 battery, please take a look at related FAQ articles here:

The k750 will not work without the battery installed. The solar panels charge the ML2032, which in turn powers the keyboard.

Why does the battery replacement information say the battery is available in the parts department when it is not? .  Also,  how long is the rechargeable battery apt to continue charging before needing to be replaced?  One year?  Two years?  Most rechargeable batteries eventually fail.

Thank you

Hi JoA63,

I've forwarded your post to folks in charge of our technical FAQ's and online parts store so that they can correct this issue. Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention.

While I do not have any information on the serviceable life of this particular battery, the K750 does come with a 3 year warranty. If the rechargeable battery fails during the warranty period, you will be able to contact our Customer Care department for a warranty replacement.

Re: Battery for K750 Solar Keboard

Thank you for looking into this.  I have purchased the keyboard knowing that the battery is under the 3 year warranty.  I also was able to find a few places (Chinese, I think) that have the battery for purchase or at least list it.  Hopefully it will be generally available by time I might need a new one and will be available also from Logitech.  I do like the keyboard!

Re: Battery for K750 Solar Keyboard

Hi,

I want to update this thread with my personal experience using this keyboard.

I bought the keyboard 3 months ago. It did not give me any problems until last week when I saw that the battery stopped holding charge. I always keep it under light source but the battery never charged beyond 80%. That went down to 70, 60.....10 and finally 0 within 1 week. I contacted customer care and they are sending me a replacement.

Now two things could have happened.

1. I got a lemon for the battery. If that is the case, then the replacement keyboard should not give me any problems.

2. There is a design flaw in the keyboard. Rechargeable batteries do not perform well if they go through a lot of cycles of charge and discharge. In this keyboard, there is no other option than making the battery go through those numerous cycles. What the engineers could have done is to make the keyboard run directly on solar when there is enough light, and put it in battery mode in insufficient light (I was under this impression when I bought the keyboard). But sadly, this is not the case. Now all I can do is wait for 3 more months to see how the replacement performs.

If anyone else is having the same problem with the keyboard please reply and suggest a solution if one has been found.

Thanks,

user with dead K750 battery

Re: Battery for K750 Solar Keyboard

I have the same problem. After about 4 months the battery will not hold a charge. The keyboard only works when it is directly under a bright desk lamp, and even if I leave it under there all day it dies within minutes when the light is removed.

Re: Battery for K750 Solar Keyboard

I have had my keyboard for about 5-6 months and it is still working ok.  However, if there is a problem that will occur soon, I will be very unhappy, as it was not an inexpensive keyboard and I really like it.  Hopefully, Logitech will send batteries to anyone who has trouble in less than a year.  I would expect the batteries to last even longer than that and agree that it would make more sense to run off the light and use the batteries only when the light was insufficient.

Re: Battery for K750 Solar Keyboard

Had mine for just under 6 months and it suddenly stopped working.  Completely dead.  No lights.  No connection.  Nothing.

Nothing wrong with the battery.  Took it out, put a volt meter on it, and it had a near fully charged 3v.  I think there is some other flaw affecting a batch of these keyboards, personally, as I am not alone.

I bought this back in July ...

started 2 weeks ago, the battery stop chagrining falling eventually to 0%

After tech support instructed that I reset and unpair the device.

And attempt to re pair the device, it no longer works.

Getting to this point I called tech support 30 min ago.  Requesting a battery to be sent to me.  The tech said there was no battery and then after insisting there is no battery... Hung up the phone at me.

Now I am at a lost....
