Keyboards and Keyboard/Mice Combo Sets

I had noticed a thread on this posted two years ago, so I just decided to open a new one.

I have had this keyboard and mouse combo for about a year now, and it just seems to be riddled with problems. Occasionally when I start my computer, the mouse will just refuse to work. This I could deal with because, usually, a quick restart would fix the problem; now, I have noticed that the keyboard will not enter keystrokes when I am moving the mouse. This is a pretty big problem for me, seeing as I bought the set for gaming purposes, as my PC is hooked up to a flat screen TV some distance away.

I have tried replacing batteries, resyncing devices, and downloading drivers; none of these things seem to have helped. This is basically my last ditch effort before I go buy something a bit more useful. So, has anyone else encountered this problem, or know how to fix it?
