HELP! SetPoint /initial setup causing Vista to crash? Cordless Desktop Wave

[ Edited ]

Here's my setup:

Machine: brand new HP m9515Y desktop running Windows Vista 64-bit

Problem: When I put the software disc in to enable all the functions of the Wave keyboard, the OS freezes at about 2/3rds the way through and I have to hard reset. After the OS boots, the keyboard and mouse work fine except the Windows Vista Flip 3D button, the Windows Vista Zoom button(s) and the function button combined with any of the F keys. After 3 attempts at uninstalling and reinstalling I thought maybe the CD was corrupted or something so I downloaded the current software install off of the Logitech site and had the same problem multiple times.

I am at a loss on what to do aside from returning the product.

HELP!

Re: HELP! SetPoint /initial setup causing Vista to crash? Cordless Desktop Wave

I have been getting this same exact problem. I installed the same product on my home computer that was running Vista, with no problems at all. Then tonight, I tried installing the same Cordless Desktop Wave on my mom's computer, also running Vista, but like the OP stated above, it stalls the entire system and I have to do a hard reboot. Like him, I tried it multiple times with the same results. I also thought it might be a corrupt disc, but then I come here and realize that this is not just an isolated incident. I really need to get this software installed so I can re-map my keyboard. When installing the SetPoint software, does it try to contact the Logitech Servers for unique files or something when they might be down? I can't figure it out. Please help us! Thanks.

Someone please help or I will return the product and buy another brand. This is getting rediculous.

Thanks.

So I'm assuming that the Cordless Desktop Wave which was designed to be used with Vista isn't actually compatable with Vista since the software doesn't work? Can anyone help please? I don't want to return it but if the product doesn't work the way it was intended, I'll be going to the store and returning it this week.

Re: HELP! SetPoint /initial setup causing Vista to crash? Cordless Desktop Wave

Hey Mr. Goldberg! I think I have found a link that might solve your problems. I used an external link to download a later version of SetPoint and it worked for me. This one is different (couldn't find the other one I used) but this site looked very legit and I am hopeful that it work. Here is the link to the download:

Let me know if this worked for you. Cheers!

Nope. Tried this one (downloaded ok, no viruses/malware) and it froze at 64%. Had to hard reboot.

I'm probably just going to buy Microsoft products from now on if this is what I have to expect with Logitech.

Re: HELP! SetPoint /initial setup causing Vista to crash? Cordless Desktop Wave

I'm having the exact same problem.  I have an HP m 8430f with Vista 64-bit.  I bought the Wave about a month ago (with the LX8 mouse) and when I tried to install the software it locked up my computer.  Also, the scroll wheel on the mouse didn't work so I exchanged the set for another (still the Wave/LX8 combo).  I tried using the new disk and it still froze (the new mouse's scroll wheel does work at least).  I tried downloading the software from the logitech website and it could not complete the download.  I tried multiple times.  I even tried downloading the 32-bit version.  Still would not complete the download.  I finally was able to download the installation file from another computer (one with 32-bit Vista) and I transferred it onto my computer using a USB drive.  It froze again.  About a week ago my hard drive crashed (in an unrelated issue) and I've since got a new one with the original factory settings on it.  The problem with the Setpoint installation still happens, both with the disk and the downloaded file.  If I don't get a resolution to this soon, I'm going to exchange it for a different product.  I paid $80 for this and I expect to get the full functionality on this keyboard/mouse.

This didn't work for me either.  It froze at 88%.

Re: HELP! SetPoint /initial setup causing Vista to crash? Cordless Desktop Wave

You know, not one response from a mod here. Not one "give us a little bit to figure this out" or even a "hey thanks for paying us to not answer you".

Forget it, I am returning the product and getting this AWESOME keyboard that will more than likely work for Windows Vista considering it's from Microsoft. I encourage you guys to do the same!

Here it is for $20 less than the Wave!

We should expect third parties like Logitech to not falsely advertise functionality they're not capable of manufacturing, and maybe answer someone's question or even respond to one that has been posted for over a week.

Not even a "We're looking into it" comment.

Anyone?
