Is my K75j0 solar keyboard dead

I have had this keyboard for less than a year. I really love the touch and feel of the keys. Both my typing speed and accuracy have improved. However, the battery recently ran down to nothing and the keyboard quit working completely. I assumed it needed to be replaced and did so. With the new battery, the solar app indicated it was charged 100 percent and the keyboard worked fine. Within a couple of days the charge was down to about 50 percent. I was surprised that it was not recharging because I was using it very little and my office is brightly lite. The solar app needle is resting aon 500 lux. I even took the keyboard outside and sat it in the bright noon sun and the battery did not charge. After muceh experimentation, I found that the battery does recharge slowly when Ioam using it. Other than that, when turned on or off in very bright light, it will not recharge. Even when just sitting in bright light the battery runs down.

Should I just toss it? I love the keyboard. If it is dead, however, I am not going to buy a new one. I expect at least a couple of years of use from hardware like this.
