When I wake-up my laptop from the sleep mode, the first keystroke on the K340 gets stuck and continues to repeat indefinitly. I have to stop it from continuing by pressing ESC. No matter what key I use to wake-up the computer, the character on the screen is always *//////// (asterisk followed by a forward slash). If I wake up the laptop using the laptop keyboard, I do NOT have this problem so this means the problem is definitely a Logitech issue.
I am using an new acer laptop running Windows 7 Home Edition and the Logitech Unifying Software 2.00.43 (Unifying Receiver Firmware version 012.001.00019) with the k340 keyboard and M505/B605 mouse.

Hello andrecolbert,
This is actually an issue originating from how some systems distribute power to the USB ports after waking from sleep or hibernation. To solve this issue, go to the power management options and do not allow power to be cut to the USB ports during sleep or hibernation. You do not have the issue with the laptop keyboard because it is not a USB device.
