K800 and M570 using one Logitech Unifying receiver. Yes/No?

hi

been using the m570 trackman via the Logitech Unifying receiver for months. all good.

other day i got a k800 kb that also uses the Logitech Unifying receiver.

i assumed that since the Logitech Unifying receiver supports six devices i would just turn on the kb and it would work.

seems not.

in order to get the kb to work i had to connect the Logitech Unifying receiver that came with it.

as it is, both devices wotk just fine - been using them for about two weeks now.

fyi: this is using just the hardware, without any logitech software.

isn't the point of the Logitech Unifying receiver to use one of them with several logitech devices?

now if you're going to suggest saying that it does work with up to six other compatible logitech devices but ONLY if using the software, then that's okay, and will answer my question, but then i have to say that's total crap.

first of all, if software is needed, how would my kb work before the o/s loads? what if i need to go into the bios? and i do go into my bios, so it's not a; what if, but a; when.

so my question is: does the Logitech Unifying receiver only support more than one device IF, and only if, one uses the logitech unifying software?

Re: K800 and M570 using one Logitech Unifying receiver. Yes/No?

I have exactly that scenario.  K800 and M570 using one Logitech Unifying receiver.

I do use the unifying software and leave it on my PC.

But, according to earlier messages here, the software is needed only to get the PC to recognise the devices.

If you are allergic to keeping the unifying software on your PC, you can remove it when you have paired all of your devices to the receiver.

I don't know if you need the SetPoint software to make everything work with all of the features available. I have not tried running my PC without SetPoint.

Re: K800 and M570 using one Logitech Unifying receiver. Yes/No?

thanks for the info.

sounds like if i install the software and run what needs to be run, from then on the receiver will recognize both devices, even without software. in theory that would mean the receiver must act somewhat like an eeprom. that something is saved to it in permanent memory. well that's the only answer i can think of, if as you say the devices will work as i originally expected once that is done.

as usual this will take me several days. i shall be back with the conclusive answer at a later date.

until then,

[ Edited ]

I think your analysis is correct.

The unifying software locks the receiver to the mouse/keyboard. If you then move the receiver from one PC to the next, the hardware follows it.

To move a mouse and from one receiver to another you have to use the unifying software to break the link. That is one reason why I keep the unifying software. Unlike SetPoint, unifying software does not launch things when you start the PC. So it does not harm to keep it.
