I wanted to purchase one of these, but I wanted to know what happens if one of the panels get scratched?

Re: Logitech K750

Hello ferndaleballa,

Scratches on the face of the panels will reduce the amount of light hitting the solar cells.  This could cause the battery charge time to increase.

I hope this helps you out.

[ Edited ]

I bought mine more than half a year ago.

Solar powered is suppose to NOT need any battery, but too bad! it still have a rechargeable battery inside which you need change that battery every 6 months! its exactly the same as regular wireless keyboards that needs battery replacement at et least every 6 months!

the worst is! its very hard to find the battery!!! i been all over here in Manila Philippines to find that kind of battery and its never available!

I even email logitech to ssist me in finding a store in my area but they NEVER relpy!!!!

im kinda [edited] off!!

What on earth gave you that idea? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Show me any solar powered device that does not have a battery.

Outdoor lights? Battery.

Wristwatch? Battery. (I own one.)

Calculator? Battery.

Radio? Battery. (I own one.)

If not, then you can't use the device in anything but a room where the lights are so bright that it can hurt the eyes.

The whole point of 'solar powered' is that it does have a battery. It stores solar energy in that battery.

Can you point to any advertising by Logitech that suggests that this is a battery free keyboard? If so, then someone should report them to the appropriate local advertising watchdogs.

Re: Logitech K750

So if the solar panels recharge the battery, the battery shouldn't need replacing after 6 months... My expectation is that the battery can be recharged and the life of the battery would be years?

Re: Logitech K750

I agree there. That is the whole point of solar powered. It charges a battery that then runs the thing.

My guess – and that's all it is – is that it isn't the battery that is dying but the system's control of that battery. Things like the "memory effect" and the electronics that tell the charger when to kick in may well have a problem .

But that is just a guess. These things do seem to create a lot of queries about battery life.

I just received my new k750 solar keyboard and plan on leaving the protective film on the keyboard.  I'm typing this post right after taking the 750 out of the shipping box, connecting to my computer and logging in to this forum.  The only light source is from a north facing window at about 4:00 PM MDT.  The light monitor has a green light when pressed and all is well.

I think scratches to the solar panels would be a problem, but if you leave the protective film on you could minimize the potential of scratching them.

I am a great believer in leaving protective film on things, but in this case I wonder how much effect it would have on the charging process.

The film may look transparent, but does it block out important frequencies at the ends of the spectrum?

I doubt it, but it would make a nice school project to test that.
