Keyboards and Keyboard/Mice Combo Sets

I have tried everything.  Still I can't get it to work.  I need the middle click to open links in new tab.  I have done the following.

In the software I set the # 3 button to middle button.  I even went as far a to download some middle click advanced tab plugins for firefox.  When I click on a link, nothing. Help please.

Config:  Window 7 Ultimate 32 bit, Firefox 3.6.12,  Setpoint version 4.80.103
