Unifying receiver - is there an alternative that doesn't require a USB port?

I am interested in getting the K750 which ships with the unifying receiver. I only have one USB port left on my laptop and I don't want this taken up with it. Is it possible to use bluetooth with the K750?

On a side note, can someone explain to me the point of this unifying receiver thing?

Bluetooth and unifying are different wireless technologies.

Logitech does make Bluetooth keyboards.

Is this a Mac you have? They are famously skimpy on USB ports. My laptop has three ports.

Yeah, it is, unfortunately. But I'm looking for a wireless windows keyboard (with a number pad) as I usually boot into windows 7. What exactly is the benefit from the unifying thing?

Not sure that there is much benefit from Unifying over Bluetooth, beyond allowing you to use a lot of difference devices and loads of them at the same time.

It may also be that the Bluetooth devices don't have as much ability to configure what they do in SetPoint.

Allowing me to use a lot of different devices at the same time? Like bluetooth? Unless there is a real reason for them having this receiver other than it taking up a USB slot and forcing a very contrived reason to buy additional logitech products when people need an additional peripheral, then I refuse to buy any more logitech products as long as they keep using it.

Logitech has always used proprietary wireless. Don't forget, they were in the wireless keyboards business before BlueTooth took off.

Does Microsoft use BlueTooth for its wireless stuff?

And not all PCs come with BlueTooth. Mine don't. So I would have to buy a BlueTooth dongle if the devices didn't come with one.

For those who insist on BlueTooth, there are products in Logitech's range.

Re: Unifying receiver - is there an alternative that doesn't require a USB port?

I can use a bluetooth dongle with other products though and I can't use the logitech unifying thing for anything other than logitech products. I only want the K750 from logitech which means I have to waste a USB slot. When most laptops come with bluetooth built in now, I really can't understand it. Its a shame because the K750 is a great looking keyboard, but I refuse to buy it because of this pointless unifying dongle... There really doesn't seem to be ANY real benefit to it.
